Where are you South FL guys getting your work done?
Where are you South FL guys getting your work done?
I'm sure you're ordering your parts from one of the big 3 (JDM, JL, PSP).........but I'm wondering where you're getting your work done. You doing it yourself, or taking it to a shop. If the latter, where? Name of shop, location, prices, friendliness, knowledge of what they're doing on L's, etc.?
thanks,
JC

have you heard of South Florida Pulley HQ? Or anyone tuned by them? I spent quite a bit of time on the phone with Terry from South Florida Pulley HQ today and he seemed like a very nice guy.............VERRRRRRRRRY Knowledgeable...He installs his own stuff......not any of the other tuner's stuff from on here (the big 3).
Don't know if anyone here has dealt with him......I'm not very mechanically inclined except for bolt-ons like intakes, exhausts, and things that people that can read can change.....but when it comes to pulleys, chips, line mod valves, etc, I stay away, I don't wanna screw it up.....I may understand all this in theory, but mechanically I'm very skeptical of myself!
But, I don't want just anyone to touch my L you know.....I'd rather go on recommendations from my Lightning Brethren here and other forums..
thanks,
JC

Well...I can tell ya what I had done. The Diablo chip/shakles I got at Prestons in FLL off of Copan's Rd. The 4lb pulley was done at Fender Mender off Commercial (ask for Paul). I was very impressed with Fender Mender....the guys that run the place have lightnings and do good work at reasonable prices. I can say after just a chip/pulley mod I was very happy with the results. The guys at Tower shops can also give info on where to go down here. Now I just need to get some more cash for more mods!!!
I will be in moved to port St. Lucie in a few weeks. I will be glad to help any L owners out... I talked with the guy from South Florida as well he does seem nice so I am going to stop by his place when I get down there. I do my installs myself, being around my dad and his shop showed me how to do things. It never hurts to ask people that have done it though......

Oh...BTW....I did meet Terry at Moroso and he did seem like a knowledgable guy.
Paul from Fender Mender is usually at Tower shops on Friday nights with his Boss Orange L.....can't miss it....I did like the idea that they have Lightnings and have most of the mods tested/installed on their own trucks already. Hope this helps. Get the credit card out....ha!

JC,
As far as I am concerned the pulley - chip - line valve mods are all VERY easy stuff to do. I would suggest to you that you can do it yourself and besides the stuff i got came with very easy to read / complete install instuctions (PSP). The key to any of these installs is the proper tools and take your time making sure each step is complete. I am sure some other south florida L's would not mind lending a hand. I lived there for 5 years (pembroke pines / hollywood) and would have lent you hand in a second if I was still there!!!!!
I really enjoy the satisfaction I get from doing my own stuff, that way I know its done properly and no corners were cut.

I love doing stuff myself too.........but I would probably feel better about restoring an old Mustang instead of toying with my brand new L.............I have confidence in myself at work and school, but not at engine stuff..............The day I get a house with a 2-car garage or 3-car garage I plan on buyin something I can restore........but I can't see myself working on my daily driver and something so expensive and complex as the L.
Anyways, thanks for all your responses..............I'm sure that in the Fridays to come I will meet a lot of you out at Tower Shops and continue to obtain valuable information similar to that found on this board.....

I agree with you. Though the mods are simple.....for piece of mind I got them done at the shop...with exception of the PSP filter. I don't have a mechanical gift.....it seems like every project I get involved in should be a Simpsons episode!
Once I saw other guys install the stuff......I made sure I knew how to get it back to stock mods. It is pretty easy stuff...but with a $478 monthly payment I'm not willing to mess around!
