For You Going In For Intercooler Replacement
For You Going In For Intercooler Replacement
Because I was unhappy with the service I received at my dealer when I went in for the IC notice, I contacted a tech at SVT & one at Ford. I wanted to find out what exactly they are supposed to do. The Ford tech was the most knowledgeable on the subject and informed me that the service bulletin only provides for changing the intercooler out and replacing the coolant. We all know that is not enough and he more than agreed and said you should (if your IC has been leaking):
1). Change your oil
2). Check you PCV hoses by the valve for contamination (tanish residue)
3). Check your plugs for fouling
4). Check your O2 sensors for contamination
He said if you are lucky, or have a good service writer, they might do these things for you, although they are not required too. If you are running rough, or have a power loss, make sure you state that as a separate issue, so that they will do the above.
Good luck with your dealer.

Mark about your recall on your truck yes you would replace o2 sensor, oil ,spark plugs if the leak is an internal one but i believe
yours was external and was no need to replace those items unless you pay of the repairs. You have to judge each repair on
it's own merit. One may need and eng. and one may need just a
cooler. The repair on your the was correct. If you have a runability
problem that's something they need to know.

I believe once your IC is leaking the coolant is going to be introduced into the intake along with the AF mixture, perhaps fouling your plugs and on through the cats. Some is going to get by your rings contaminating your oil. I think the major factor is how long your IC has been leaking. You might not need any further servicing or you might need a new engine, as some have received.
