Do I need to replace fuel pump???

A couple of weeks ago I installed my home made ram air. The setup looks and works well. But after a couple of hard runs a got the service engine light. Took it to a friend and he tells me it is running lean on bank 1, then resets it for me. Another week goes by without any problems until last night and I was not even running it hard when I get the light again.

I am not a mechanic , but sounds like I might need bigger fuel pumps or injectors. Also, I know that the stock boost gauge is not always accurate, but the addition of the air and K@N air filter made it go from 8psig to of the chart.

Any input would be appreciated and sorry if there are mistakes. My truck is a 99L but I have only had it for about 3 months. Oh and by way, THIS TRUCK IS AWESOME!!!!

bow:

I don't think you need upgraded injs. or fuel pumps. The f/injs are supposed to be able to support about 500 flywheel HP and new pumps(you have two) aren't needed until way more boost is present and/or nitrous is used. I hope one of the more knowledgeable guys/tuners chimes in--but these comments are one I've seen posted in the past.

I think you have knocked something loose---did you check under the intake rubber boot--two 'pipes' and an electrical(I think) connection have to be attached tightly into the boot? Is your IAT pressedin in it's place?

Good luck,

Dan

Dan is right your stock fuel pumps can handle a lot more HP than these trucks come with. Check all the vacuum lines in under the intake hose. If you have a lean code it couls be a sensor too, a ram air system wouldn't make just one side run lean.

Where is Sal when we need him?

Be sure all three lines are connected in the rubber boot from the MAF to TB on the underside. That might contribute to the leaness.

Thumbs up

Thanks guys,

I guess I was panicking a little and didn' look at the obvious. I looked at all the vacumm hoses and a couple where barely hanging on and one was off. I hooked them back up and disconnected the battery and the light is gone. Sorry for wasting you'lls time, but I greatlly appreciate it. Next time I will try and have a bigger problem!!!

No problem. Just be happy that something wasn't really wrong...
