Angry My Truck Just Died!!!

I was driving to the car wash when the rpms dropped and started to surge. I put it in park and turned off the truck and restarted. Truck seemed ok. Two minutes later, the same thing happened. Turned it off then on and it was ok. I decided to turn around and it died a third and final time. Now it will start and die immediately and the service engine soon light comes on! I have a JL chip in it and thats pretty much it. I walked home to get a wrench to disconnect the battery so I can remove the chip and if it doesn't work, I will have to have it towed to the dealer again. Anybody else seen this happen??? Its an '01 with 750 miles or so. Help Me!!!

How many miles since you installed the chip?

yeaup

Its happened to lots of people. Usually a bad connection or lose chip. Take it all back apart and clean it really well once again and wipe it with alcohol and reinstall it. Hope it takes care of your problem like it has so many others. Put a good strong tape over the slot to help hold the chip stable. Good Luck.

IM SURE YOU DID.....

....but, did you disconnect the battery for a few minutes while removing that chip ? This sounds like a chip/contact problem to me.

Question

Sounds like it could be a fuel filter problem, too...depending on how many miles you have. If you're over the 5K mark, you might want to check into putting a new one in and see if that helps.

I had a black 01 in our shop for that same concern with only like 450 miles on it. Now this truck was bone stock. A rubber hose poped off the fuel pump so we replaced the pump itself. Been fine ever since. Your problem sounds very much like this one ,, good luck....

prolly not a fuel filter problem with 750 miles duck.

It is prolly what others said...the chip. This problem pops up a lot.

Your chip probably popped out while you were driving and fried you pcm because the battery was still plugged in. You may need to have your pcm replaced. I have seen this happen to alot of chip users.

OOPS! Guess that's what I get for not reading the whole post. At least I had that "if you're over 5K" in there so I don't look like a total ***.

01-
Did you have your chip duct taped to your PCM or not? Hope so....

definitely sounds like a chip problem....make sure the contact is clean. You have to disconnect the battery for 10 min for pcm to reset. If you fried the pcm...hopefully they will fix it under warranty without a hassle.

Blow M3-
Can't you just disconnect the negative cable and turn the lights on for a few seconds to clear out any redsidual memory?

Chip was firmly taped in place. The chip had not been touched in over 400 miles. I removed the chip and same results. I had the truck towed to the dealer. They will call me once they determine the problem. I hope its not the PCM. Would the truck even start if the PCM was fried??? I don't think so. The engine starts and the PCM sees something it doesn't like and kills the ignition and sets a SES light. Possibly a bad sensor I hope! I will update this post when I hear from the dealer.

I fried a PCM in my 99 f150 4x4. It was my own fault I tried to solder the contacts. It would start you could drive it a few feet then it would die again.

So yes a fried PCM can start.
