2001 oil leak at 12k miles
2001 oil leak at 12k miles
Went in for my 5-20 oil change and they showed me that there is engine oil leaking from either a pan gasket or rear seal......
they put some chemical in the crankcase oil and I go back in this Tuesday and they'll identify the leak. Warranty covers.
Also, my rear driver side tail light is collecting moisture and they'll order one and hope they find one to replace the original.

When we picked up our '01L in April, it had been raining alot. The left taillight had moisture in it, so we had the dealer make a note of it. They were too far away for us to use for warranty work.
We drove it in alot of rain on the trip home, then heavy snow here. After things dried out, including the taillight, we waited to see.
So far, after almost 15,000 miles it has never happened again. This is with washings with a power nozzle, heavy rains, and even snow again. Can't for the life of me figure it out.
However, we won't complain. One less chance to have Gomer and Cooter work on our truck.

my rear main has been leaking since new most likely, but was first noticed at about 1000 or 1200 miles. not pouring but enough to see the bellhousing damp and a droplet formed at each oil change. now at 7000 miles and hasn't gotten any worse yet. I'm too lazy to pull my tranny to fix it (until it gets a little worse anyway

Hey LightningBolt...Hope your oil leak isnt from the headgasket on the passenger side. Dont know how many 5.4 F-150's and Expeditions I have put headgaskets on for that....just seeps out the back of the gasket and runs down the bellhousing appearing to be coming from rear main..but not. I dont know if this problem is on our L's or not.....Im crossing my fingers...I only have 1700 miles on my 01 Red L.
My truck has 7,000 on it. Has had a slight seep from the rear main /oil pan area since day 1. I am like chris (superfords) extremely to lazy to pull my tranny out. Unless it gets really bad. Then i trade it in ,,

For those whose trucks are leaking, did you replace the pcv valve with a breather cap or do you still have the pcv valve in?
I had replaced the pcv valve on an older 302 with a breather cap and it was building up too much pressure and started leaking. As soon as I put the pcv back in, the leak went away.
Just a thought
