I would BET the whole house that there is NO Lightning sitting at a dealership that has the chance of getting "flat spots" on its tires

After getting on it the other day I noticed vibration. I thought it was the road or something. I noticed later on smooth asphault that the vibration seemed to be there at all speeds, but really noticeable at 65 to 70. Took it in to a suspenson specialist, and they saw that the shaft was worn from hitting the cross member. Too much power, right? So I've ordered traction bars and a 4" steel '00 shaft. Should keep the rear end from squatting and the driveshaft from hitting the cross member. I assume the shaft is bent, so can't really drive safely until the mods are done. Jim @JDM said to notch out the cross member to add some clearance, but I think the 4" shaft should do the same thing.

2) At 65 mph, I get a vibration most of the time, but not all of the time. This is the problem child. Driveline vibration that is temperature dependent. Shakes the foot, steering wheel, arm rest and passenger seat. All possible wheel balancing methods have been tried. Rims changed, tires replaced. Nothing. It ain't in the wheels.
sorry to dig this post up but my truck just started doin
whats in the quote from what04 anyone fix this yet?

its does it with all 3 sets of wheels i have.
so its definately comin from somewhere else

The only way I cured my vibration was to sell the truck. Never did figure it out.

Hopefully somebody finds the fix, cause I know a lot of trucks have the problem!

Good luck.

Only 01s do it, and almost every one does it.

i didnt realize i had a problem.. until now!

i figured it was normal, being my first truck and all and guessed it was due to the lightweight in the back...

. i notice it in the armrest primarily..

My 00 does it as well. I also have an exhaust rattle. Hopefully when they fix that the problem goes away.

I have the drivetrain vibration in my '02 from 65mph+ (not the exhaust problem).

I see a lot of problem reports... but no success stories. Has anyone fixed this problem with balancing the driveshaft or switching to a steel shaft?

My 98 SC 5.4 has had a vibration at 62-65 mph from Day1, which was in November of 1997. I've lived with it for 80,000 miles....Guess I'll live with it for the next 100,000 miles.

Dealer originally replaced the driveshaft, which solved nothing. After seeing so many posts on here about the same problem, with no clear cut solutions, I decided just to live with it. Kinda like the door crack thing! I figured the repair might be worse than the crack.

same prob here

I have the same problem with my 99 light. at about 70-80 it can get VERY nerve racking. Irritates the living hell outta me. Especially since I'm used to driving at about 75mph everywhere I go. It's gotten to the point that I don't drive the damn thing hardly at all because of it. And now that some guy decided to ram his 77 ford truck into the back of mine while I was sitting at a red light, I think once it's fixed, it's just going to sit garaged until someone wants to buy it. I'm tired of dealing with the thing. Say goodbye to lightning, say hello to new engine and turbo for the mustang.

The new dodge trucks look pretty sweet... (not the ssrt)

Thumbs down

The "shake" has really got me down too. All new shocks, wheels[chrome exchange] and now 6 new F1's. Two were replaced by Discount after their "force balancer" said they were crap. Seems to be worse now then with the old shocks and tires. I can't believe no one knows how to fix it. I've lived with it for 32K and now I know for sure it's NOT the wheels or tires. I don't think I've got another 32K in me.

Typical Ford and their "Hmmm, that's the first time I heard of this!" statement. Check out the vibration issues being experienced on the '03 Cobra. Everybody says it's the same vibration felt on their '01 Cobras. Doh!

What amazes me with this issue is that so many people seem to realize they've got it but won't come forward and discuss it. Too bad too because it happens in the heart of the normal speed range, not in the "we can't test it at that speed".

Wish someone could shed some light.
