Guys with aftermarket gauges>>>

My guages were installed and hooked up on Sunday and I have driven the truck about 30 miles since then and I made some observations and wanted to compare notes with the other guage users. My current mods that are installed are a PSP filter kit - Bassani cat back. Everything else is stock and the guages I have are very accurate or so I have been told by many many people.

I have Boost - Fuel Pressure - Water Tempature.

Boost :

It will make 6psi of boost free reving, any slight throttle input makes 5psi and Peak boost is at 11.5 psi on the nose (peak hold). Vacum at idle is dead on 20in hg and 18 with the truck in gear.

Fuel Pressure :

Fuel pressure at idle is ~30psi and peaks at 51psi.

Water Temp : (50-60 deg here lately)

The cooling system seems to be very efficient. The majority of time I am 175deg and when it passes 180 is comes right back down to 175deg, I am assuming the thermostat is 180. My peak temp is 187 after a boost run to 110mph.

There are just some observations I made and I was curious as to what others are seeing.

Bob

First oil change (850 miles) and PSP filter and chip this weekend!!!!

Bob,
Those are the exact same guages I have sitting in my garage that I will install shortly on the L, except I have the Autometer Ultralites. I am waiting on the full pillar guage pod to arrive. WhenI get them installed, I will reply, although it may be a few more days, depending upon when the pod shows up.

Hey man,
Did all '01 Lightnings come with the driver's side "oh-sh*t" handle, or did you add that? My 99 doesn't have one....

Ok got my gauges installed yesterday,

Same guages as you Bob, fuel, boost, water temp, all else bone stock except for the boost bypass mod, and transgo shift kit with the line mod.

My readings after a 30 minute session (Outside Air Temp =45 deg F),

Idle:
Fuel pressure = 29 psi
Boost = 19.5 in of HG vaccuum
Water temp = 175 deg F

WOT:
Fuel pressure = 50 psi
Boost = 10 psi
Water temp = 175 - 180 deg F

Seems to be a pretty close comparison except you get a little more boost at WOT. Is that because you had the filter mod installed at the time of your readings, or was that bone stock.

GoDogGo,

That seems about right to me, the 11.5 psi was at peak with the very cold air and the PSP filter kit.

Your other readings are dead on..

How do you like them at night???

Bob

Ps. I am seeing 13.5Ppsi now with the PSP 2LB pulley!!!

Bob: You're scaring me! You show an extra 5.5 lbs above the 'stock' boost of 8lbs with just a 2lb. pulley? I know, you said 11.5--stock pulley with a filter--man, what am I getting boost wise, with a 5lb. pulley and a filter kit? And yes, the stock thermostat is a 180.

Bob,

Thanks for the reply. I have heard that the filter will allow about 1.5 psi more boost, and it looks like you got at least that much.

I have the guages wired through the light dimmer and have the green light cover installed on the guage bulb. With this set-up, the guages look good at night. At night, the green guage color is pretty close to the color of the lit instrument panel. Not bad for the "K-Mart" version of gauages. Still wish though that I went for the Defi guages instead.

Next mods, 4# lower, filter, electric fans, Cobra water pump, and Denso's.

Dan,

My peak on my gauge show a solid 13.5psi right now with the colder air. The "RATED" ford boost pressure is low IMHO. These trucks are making 9.5 ~ 10psi off the showroom floor.

You are making in the vicinicty of 14.5 or 15psi with a true 5lb pulley I would think.

I dug this pic up from a post a few weeks ago when the air was a tad warmer..... you tell me

Rusty -

They average about $220.00 per gauge. Do a search for "defi" and all you answers are there...

The lighting for them is tapped into my dash lights for dimmng purposes..

Night All
