k&n air filter?????????
Does it drop right in the stock air box? Do you feel any gains or improvements over stock?? I mean something your "***-o-meter" would actually feel......................I don't know if I'm imagining it, but I thought I saw someone post a .mpg showing the boost needle flying towards the black past 10, with simply a drop in filter and the bottom cut out the stock airbox or something.......i might be wrong though.

MiamiWhite, yes it drops right into the stock box. As for improvement. Didn't see much until I did the home made cold air. I posted some dyno results about 2 months ago. Only saw a 1hp increase in changing filters. Once I opened the cold air inlet, there was a 8-9hp increase.

When you say opening up the cold air intake you gained 8-9 HP:
would a BIG hole in the bottom of the stock airbox and the K&N filter (drop-in) make those kind of gains???????

lbolt and MiamiWhite, sort of. I cut a 3" hole in the bottom of the box and ran some flex tubing down through the fender wheel to out in front of the radiator, behind the lower grill. With the extra air coming into the box, you could really notice the difference. I don't have mine setup for ram air, to stop the possible intake of any water. In the nearly 4 months I've run this setup, only the slightest amount of water made it's way into the box, and that went out the drain holes.
There was another thread just yesterday (https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...threadid=58856) that had pics of L in Detroits similar setup to mine. The parts (including the filter) cost me less than $60. I've been meaning to take pics, but just haven't gotten around to it.

PS. Here's the pics of my dyno charts. https://www.f150online.com/galleries...ew.cfm?num=146
Each run after the stock airbox/filter run was done with minimal cooldown.

i went to my local napa auto parts store and asked for one for my 2001. the guy looked in the little K&N book he had and said he could only find 99-00 lightnings. so he called K&N, and they said its the same one, so he ordered it and it was there the next day.
