Help on Keypad Install PLEASE...

OK,
If...
The tricky part is to undo the yellow clip on the rod leading from the handle to the latch mechanism. This will allow easier access in the removal and reinstallation of the handles.

How in the ******* do I get that clip off? I've tried numerous ways with no luck...

Thanks!

James

James, that yellow clip is hinged with the white main body. There is a little tab that sticks off it, you need to pull the tab and it should "snap" out and unhinge. Carefull, it hurts your finger when the tab releases

If you haven't already done this. Go to www.svtlightnings.com and go to the how to links. There is a keypad install with all the little tricks you need to know.

My fingures were almost gone!!

Guys... I have posted this before in effort to help save angony.

I too struggled with that clip... must have been 30-40 minutes before I finally woke up and smelled the coffee.

Use the box end your 10mm wrench. Place it over the yellow tab and give a firm but gentle pull to the right and it'll pop right off.

Also... watch out for the counter weights on the new handle... somewhere along the way there was a change in the desigh of the part and if you weights are different between the stock handle on the new one... do yourself a favor and swap the weights before you go any further.

I thought I was the only one that was having problems with that clip...

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one, and I will try the box wrench tip...

My girlfriend was watching as I was trying to do mine. After I tried for a while she asked me what was taking so long, so I said "My hands are too big and I can't get this tab off". She says let me try. About 3 minutes later it was off! I'm not sure if it helped or not when I said "You can't do it!" LOL That always makes her more determined. So you could try that.

Later,
Roger

Used needle nose pliers to grab the tab. It worked perfect . Only took about 2 seconds. BTW , I love the mod . Highly recommend doing it. Well worth the $120 in parts.

Got to agree with Vinnie . . . great mod and the long nose pliers worked fine!

Got mine from "fordpartsonline" . . . came with, not only the extra large counter weights but two little nicks in the new handle! I know Gary would have replaced it with no hassle at all - in fact he was kind of upset that I didn't send it back, but . . . I really wanted to get it done!

I took both old and new apart. Used the old handle and weight and new surround and keypad - worked great, no problems.

I replaced both the long and short rivits with threaded rod, washers and nuts (with a little Lok-Tite) on each end.

I use it all the time (even when I have the keys in my hand)! I'm sure I'll get tired of it - someday.

I just wish I could get mine. Ordered from Fordpartsonline.
They shipped within two days. that was on nov. 20th.
UPS, said they delivered to my front door on the 29th.
My mom lives here 24/7 never leaves the house.
No ups ever came. Now here it is dec 6th and still no key pad
Gary and Paul are doing everything they can to help me track
the box. Ups said they will see if the driver can remember where
he took it to. So now I guess I am waiting till next year before
I get mine done. Gary, Paul, thank you for every thing you are
doing. It's not your fault Ups BITES!!!!

That is very strange. The EXACT same thing happened to me. UPS said that the package was delivered to my front door, but there was never anything out there.. I too was home that evening. Paul was cool, and sent me out another one.

Well now UPS has 2 keypads....

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone that posted tips.

I'd tried popping it off with my finger (fingers too big!) and with a screwdriver like the How-To says, with no luck.

The needle nose pliers did the trick for me in about 5 sceonds!!! Now I'm done and sorry I waited so long to install (I bought the parts in Feb! )

Doug, I took a pic of the clip opened for you to add to the How-To if you like. I'll mail it to ya soon.

Thanks again!

James
