I'd say you got the shaft. From your post, you left the wheels with him to "work up a value" for you to then decide what to do. If you didn't tell the guy to sell the wheels, then technically he stole them.

Here are some options as to what to do:

1. Go back and tell the guy you want your wheels back, and since he sold them without your authorization, he will have to get you new wheels and tires, or come up with a used set that matched the condition of your set.

2. Work up your own value for the wheels and present that to him. Find a few people selling a set of 01 wheels and print out the ads to show him, and tell him you want the average of what those people are selling thier wheels for (which I'm sure would be much higher than $500).

I think those are the two rational actions to take. However, there is something else to keep in mind. You did not mention what you paid for the chrome wheels, but all chrome wheels are not equal. If your wheels have "SVT" on the center caps like the stock wheels, then they are Ford wheels and worth equal to your stock ones, plus the chrome. If your wheels have a lightning bolt on the center cap, they are aftermarket made replicas, and they are not worth as much as genuine Ford wheels. There is nothing particularly wrong with the aftermarket ones, but you can use that as part of your arguement concerning price and value. Hope this helps.

Here's another idea.

Report them stolen. Say that the wheels were left there until the place could get a value. They sold them without your permission.

The only thing that would screw this up is if you took the $500.00 already. I may look like you accepted it as payment.

Think about it.

There was no agreement on any price. You made a mistake leaving them there and not setting a minimum. He ripped you off and sold them without your permission.Tell him you want your wheels back.He sold them so he can't do that.

Find out where he goes.Throw him a suprise aluminum bat party.Make him your guest of honor.Do NOT take a partner as this will only get you convicted.(I'm only joking about this,of course....)

Unhappy a hard learned lesson

while you were taken advantage of, you did allow it to happen. Not to berate you or anything, I don't even know you. I'm just trying to impress upon you how important it is to get everything in writing.

That said, you were dealt with unethically, unprofessionally, but it sounds like technically, not illegally. I'd simply start with a firm, ungiving '$500 isn't enough, you're going to have to cover the difference, they're worth at least a grand on the market with tires' As he should well know. At least one, possibly 2 crhome wheels should be free to cover the difference. Tell him that you told him no less than a $1000 & that was that - stick to it. If it feels like it's not going anywhere, sue them. A lot of times less than ethical places don't like to even be bothered with court and essentially, it's going to be your word, vs. his... Your best bet is strike a deal, but be ready to stand up for yourself...

The rims go for around $230 ea. new. Center caps are an additional cost. Used tires...who knows? You possibly could have done better but you didn't have to Jack with it. I'm sure he made at least 200-300 bucks on the deal. The question then becomes is that a fair amount for his troubles?

Try about 360 smackers. A friend just had one replaced by a tire shop that damaged it during rotation. Ouch!

You did tell him to check with you before selling them but he sold without consulting you. You never gave him permission to sell on his own accord. He stole them.

I would tell him you want them back or you want replacements in the same condition as the ones that were left. Let him figure out where he is going to get them

See if you can find out what he sold them for and ask for that much money. If he refuses then pursue legal actions. I don't care if he provided a service to you and should get some money. He tried to take advantage of you.

Something needs to be done about these scumbags.

I can't believe you didn't get violent with him immediately! You have better restraint than me. Good luck anyway.

I would have already been at his place of business raising hell. I don't put up with people ****ing around like that. Although I tend to have a very short fuse and a loud mouth in those types of situations. *shrug*
