Anyone run their lightning in snow?

Im looking to get a 99 L thats at the dealership. I dont think its been run in winter, cause the underside is beautiful. I feel bad about buying a sweet lightning and driving it around in winter. Im used to driving mustangs in winter so im used to the pleasure of trying to accelerate in 5 inches of fresh snow. Are F1s even all season tires? The dealership just put a new set of them on the truck.

One time last winter I had to drive the L in to work instead of the beater. When I got off work there was 4 inches of snow on the ground. My usual 10 min ride home took 30 minutes. 0-15 took a good 400'

The F1's should not be used in the snow. Open the driver door and you'll see a sticker warning you about the F1's in the snow.

Interesting. I wonder if I should get some stock takeoff rims and tires off an explorer or something. It should look super ugly but I dont have any choice. Ive noticed no one makes 18 inch snow tires, I wonder why?

Your snow's will have to be at least a 16'' rim to clear the rear calipers.15'' rims will not fit w/o grinding the calipers. Good Luck

Just get some 16" spare rims or get some steel chromes and you'll be good with snow tires...

I CANT SLEEP! I want the L so bad its got me loosing sleep over it. I have to sell my GT so I can pay off the current loan I have. Im not too worried about the L being sold cause its been there for a while. One thing I thought was cool about it was it had carpet under the bed cover, looked really nice! Oh back to the tires, I think ill try to get some 16s off of some ford, and get the blizacks. From what ive been reading it seems like alot of weight in the back is good.

Wait till spring to buy your Lightning, but then again the way this winter is going, there might NOT be such a bad winter after all. Here in NJ the weather man says we might see 70's today and thursday....Dec 5 & 6=65/70 degree weather

ok listen. if anyone knows snow ,, i do. check where i live. i had a 99 and now an 01. i drive them in the winter. under no, i repeat no circumstance should you drive the truck in the winter with the f1's, unless you want to have an accident. they are terrible in the winter. i have other wheels and michelin tires for the winter, and they make a huge, huge difference. because they are taller and much more narrow so they dont plow through the snow and grip 100 times better on the ice. if you change the tires and wheels then you can enjoy the truck all year round. and remember its still a truck , so enjoy it all year.

If you live anywhere near Las Vegas, Nevada, I'll sell you a set of LT 235/75R17 wintermaster tires on steel rims, for a good deal. Used not even 3000 miles. They have been sitting in storage costing me $$ since my friends down there refuse to take care of shipping them for me.

Drove on 'em for a month, then on our way to vegas we hit a moose, and we shipped the truck to Seatle. There I had my other rims waiting for me and swapped them over. Drove the snow tires to Vegas and thought I'd be back for them, or at the very least that one of my friends would ship them COD for me. That was almost 2 years ago.

Wow, so that is what snow looks like .

But really, a Lightning will be just fine in the snow if you use the proper tires and keep your foot out of the boost.

tire rack

my recommendation is to go to www.tirerack.com. You can get 4 factory ford rims, nothing pretty, but they're not bad, for 50 bucks a piece. Get michelin alpine 2 tires, good for ice and snow. They will ship them mounted and balanced for around 650-700 total. Difference would be the shipping depending on where you live. Put a half dozen 50lb bags of sand right over the rear axle and treat the accelerator nicely and you should be all set. Ok, at least this is what i've gathered so far. Haven't actually gone all the way. Have the wheels, tires, and sand part set........the rest will come sooner or later.
