Thumbs down Stock exhaust blew apart

I was doing a 0-60 run the other day enjoying the performance of my new chip.....and at about 40mph heard a loud BANG--followed by a loud engine sound. Got underneath to see the muffler had separated from the exhaust and the side pipes were wedged back towards the rear tire. Took some paint off the little exit area as well. Definetly gets your attention when it happens!!!Dealer fixed it up for now----but I did start to like the sound with out the muffler installed.

Oh--off topic but I also had the #4 lower pulley installed today....what a great difference! Worth the money in my opinion!!

I asked the dealer if they had seen this exhaust problem before and they said I was the first....but I've heard from some of the local L guys that this seems to be a common problem with modded trucks.

From the info I got....I understand a welding may be in order! Apparantly this will just continue to happen until I do something more permanent. I've heard of neck-snapping performance...but exhaust snapping???

it's more of intimidation thing.

"Yea well my truck makes so much power it blows the muffler off"

Can we take this as sign of a restrictive muffler?

That happened to me back in October of '99. I was racing a chevy truck that thought he was quick, on the highway. Took it to the dealer the next day and they fixed it.

About a week later, it happened again, and they ordered new clamps. Then it snowed.

The following march, my first week in Vegas, I lined up against an Acura Integra, and the guy actually threw a rev at me. 1st light I let him take off. 2nd light I throw a rev (gotta remember muffler was still on), and I let him inch away.

At the 3rd light, this guy was cheesing his eyes out. He sure was happy about beating a truck. He even had his window down and was trying to look cool. I throw yet another rev, and this guy smiles and nods like he knows whats gonna happen. Well the light finally turns green and he takes off, and I wait until he gets halfway through the intersection before I go. I launched it perfectly. I had him reeled in by the end of the intersection, and right when I passes him I hear this <clunk ROOAAAARRRR> of the engine (something like that anyways) and just kept going until the 4th light, which was red, just like the other 3. He finally gets there, and his window is up. so I throw a rev, and he kept looking straight ahead. Then I throw a long and loud rev just to make sure all like from the car was dead, and secured myself with the kill.

Thats when it dawned on me. The truck dont like the muffler, so I took it off, and sure enough it gave me a consistent .2 in the quartermile. Not only that, it sounds cool as hell.

Doesn't it get too loud....especially on long highway trips without the muffler on?? I didn't get to hear it too long without it and I came very close to pulling it off permanetly myself. Maybe if it happens again.....

Red00Lght - I thought it was way to loud. But then again I like quiet. Honestly I wouldn't mind a quiter muffler for the L.
