Alot of this has to do with what peoples wants are. The imports are a small first investment for a young buyer that can mod it up later. Look at what svt is doing to the focus for under $20k. Then you watch ESPN and all they show now is the import car shows. Then look at the aftermrket. All the stuff they show coming out of SEMA and shows like it are companys that are known to make mods for 8 cyl. now pushing the 4 and 6 market. I owned a 84 Z28 w/ a H.O. motor (205 hp -how times have changed) an 87 vette and a mustang. Now I am older and a truck is what I want. I think people just do not look at the f-bodied cars with the same enthusiasm as in the 80s and 90s with the vette being the exception.

Only problem - insurance companies HATE these cars..Most highball the rate and a potential owner gets discouraged..

2nd point - Well the 93's came out, a mild makeover in 98 w/the LS1.. That' it..FOrd on the other hand always keeps the Mustang advertised & refreshened/revised product..

GM only cares about the C5 Vette - back in 95 my Z gave quite a few automatic Vettes hell. Well Gm continues to pump life in the C5 but the fbodies remained stagnant. EX. 385bhp Z06. 02 Z06 makes 405bhp..

LAST: GM kills the fbodies BUT continues to make the Pontiac Aztek & Buick Renevous..NO need to commet on these two turds..
Only problem - insurance - that is most likely because they are driven by younger, high risk drivers who wreck them and get tickets. Insurnace rates are based on the track history of losses for that particular vehicle plus the overall risk of the driver.

2nd point - The LS1 is a GREAT engine. The 98 makeover made the camaro ugly, plus they still had the cheesy interiors. If they could do something with quality and the overall package, they'd have a winner there.

C5 - I agree!!!!

LAST - DEFINATELY AGREE!!! LOL

That is easy.........can you say rental fleets??? I see SO many V6 and 'vert Stangs down here in FL, it isn't even funny. That reason alone makes the Mustang sales so good.

Yep, I can say rental fleets. I can also say female buyers. You'd be surprised how many mustangs have been sold by the "cute little horsey" in the grill. That and the fact that they can see over the hood of the vehicle. Ask a few ford salesmen, I have, and they'll smile for sure. They might even let you in on the joke.

I went a little over the top in my original post on purpose. I wanted to state an opinion I haven't heard voiced before and see how people react. The idea of Image killing the f-body is a sound one. It's not the only arrow in the carcass; but, it struck a vital area.

Much of what I've said in this thread has been ignored by some of the other posters and repeated by others as though it hadn't already been said. It seems I have just provided another chance for Camaro bashers to incorrectly malign their rival.

BMW, NISSAN, TOYOTA, MERCEDES, killed the camaro/firebird. Back in the late 60's and early 70's it was drive a muscle car or an "old folks" car. Muscle cars where the 'image' that you wanted. Now , German cars and Imports have the 'image' that most want, with most of the speed of the pony cars. Mustang still sells because the image is better than the F-bodies.

Exactly. Another interesting note is that I see more women driving Mustangs (new style) than the F-body.

All of these young punks want to simulate the rally car by putting stickers and spoilers on their Neon instead of buying a muscle car. Insurance on a riced out POS honda is cheaper than a 300+ hp coupe. Someone in the insurance industry should start an initiative by increasing premiums for stickers, spoilers, and fart cans.

...snipped stuff...

No no no. You've got it all wrong. It isn't the little horsey, it's the lighted vanity mirrors! And cup holders! Can't forget the cupholders!

Funny, I was sold on the cute little lightning logo on the side of the truck. I was really in the market for a Ranger and I said "hell, got nothing better to do than **** off $32,000 dollars on a truck that will never haul anything but a$$" so here I am....

I own a 2000 WS6 TA and here is my 2 cents. The car absolutely does not cater to women in any way. It is difficult to get in and out of.....long dash and hood hinders a womans visibility and judgement of distance when parking. I think the mustang has a better ride quality as well with nicer looking radio/ac controls layout. I love my TA and its performance but am willing to make some sacrifices when many understandably are not when shelling out this kind of money. GM never marketed the car well either. Lastly, its an old body style with just nose/tail redesign. You may think I don't like my car but nothing could be further than the truth. A black WS6 sitting next to most folks at a light is very intimidating when anticipating the light change
