Looking to get a 99 lightning, how much are they worth?

My local ford dealership has a 99 lightning forsale. They want 24,800 for it. It has 15,000 miles on it. To me this seems a bit high. How much should I try to talk them down too? Im hoping that around 20,000-21,000 wouldnt be out of line. Another dealer has a new 2000 for 25,000, and the new 2002s are 32,000. I dont see why they want as much for the 99 when its used when you could get the new one for 200 more. If anyone could give some advice or experiences I would apreciate it. Thanks.

I bought my 99 2 months ago here in FL. It was VERY clean with 13,800 miles. They were asking $25,900. I paid $23,500. Brand new you are looking at atleast $27500-$28000, minimum.
Go in near the end of the month, especially now that snow time is near, they may want to move it out.

When you go in to calmly negotiate, drop these phrases into the conversation:

1. "Intercooler recall"
2. "Owner abuse"
3. "Gas mileage"
4. "The cost of the F1's"
5. "First year made"
6. "Almost out of warranty"

All the above will give the salesperson the perspective that you have done your research.

If it doesn't work out, I'll sell you mine for a bazillion dollars...

Oh, yeah....

Good luck!

Thanks guys! some good info. Ive never negotiated about car prices before. Im the dumb *** that just pays the sticker I figured id try to nicely let them know for the same price I could get the 2000 from the other dealer with a fresh warantee and no miles. Oh was it 2000, or 2001 that they got the better intercooler, aluminum driveshaft, and 3.73s? that could be a good debate also.

It was 2001. Like TampaSVT said, do your homework and reserach ahead of time. Go to edmunds.com and see what the market is in your area for used vehicle and the value of a Lightning. While at the dealership, make sure to ask for a carfax on that vehicle. I did and mine showed perfect on there. When I bought mine, another local Ford store had a 2000, Black with 8000 miles and were asking $2k more. But I used that 'ol "well, for that price, I'll go buy the 00 with lower miles...." trick.
If it doesn't look like they sell it fast, go in one day, set a lower price, like your range, and when they say they can't do it, get their best offer, then say OK, and leave. They may give you the deal right before you seriously walk out the door instead of losing the sale. Worse case, walk out, then go back a couple of days later, and start again.
Also, tell them that snow time is REALLY close, then they will never move it. Throw in the tire replacement issue also. The tires will run you atleast $200 each, so total cost just for tires is pushing $1000 by the time you mount them, tax and stuff. The stock F1's won't last much past 20K if you're lucky.

Good luck, be strong, don't give in to them. Hold your price. I went up a whole $750 from what I wanted to pay AND I got 2 new front tires included.
