New intercooler=more power?
New intercooler=more power?
I read all the threads and haven't really seen a good answer to this question. I had my intercooler replaced on Friday. According to the letter from SVT this also included a new intake to make the 2001 style intercooler fit a 2000 or '99. Has anyone dynoed their Lightnings before and after? Could the new intake have better flow, hence more power? I (of course) haven't dynoed my L yet but my butt-o-meter says it feels stronger. Might be wishful thinking but I figured I'd ask if anyone has real numbers.
hahaha
I am now an official member of the search police.........do a search!!! Just kidding. I posted the same thing when i had mine done. Some people showed a gain on the dyno, believe it or not, there were a few people who lost power!! I thought my truck ran like crap for like almost a week after I had it done. Then i got on it one day pulling on to the interstate and it seemed to run great after that. Still want to pull the battery cables and reset my computer thought. So do a search and there is at least one good thread on this.

RedShift,
I have also had my intercooler replaced with the 2001 intercooler and midplate. I think the real power gain would be to use the 2001 lower manifold, if you have a chance to look at two side by side you will see that the 2001 is much better than the 99 or 2000 lower. When they do the intercooler upgrade they only do the 2001 intercooler and midplate, But if you want to see some real power gain you will need to switch out the lower manifold as well.

We always seem to set new best times when the I/C is leaking. The "fix" was put in and haven't had a chance to go the track with it due to a blown rod. But for the few days we running around on the street with it, it felt good but was hard to tell if there were any gains from it.
I dunno? Last time I was at the track was about 1 year ago, (Yeah Yeah, I work too much
) and I managed to run the time in my sig. All that was done to my truck was an open K&N filter and a Magnaflow cat-back system. That's it! I also run a couple of 13.4's and .5's at 101+mph that night. Also, it was a very chilly 30-40 degree night.
Well, I just had the I/C replaced about 2 weeks ago. I removed the K&N and re-installed the stock air-box before I took it to the dealer. They swapped out the I/C for the new one and I got the truck back the next day, which was the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. Wednesday I put the K&N back on, along with a valve cover breather I bought, and plugged the hole in the bottom of the rubber intake tube just before the throttle body. ($10 mod!! ) Truck seemed to run as good as ever. Friday (day after Thanksgiving) I decided to go to the track since I had the day off. This was the same track where I ran my previous times last year, and temps were in the lower 50s, then dropped into the 40's after it got dark. Forgot to mention that now I also have the line mod valve too!
I only got 4 runs in, and the starting line S-U-C-K-E-D! Couldn't hook up 4 Chit! So I had to baby it off the line and the best 60' I could muster was 2.04-.05's. My best run was 13.75 @ 99.8mph and a couple low 13.80's in the 99mmph range. Now I know I lost at least 1 tenth/1mph just on the starting line alone (last year I was pulling 1.95 60's), which *might* equate to 2 tenths at the big end, but my truck was down 4 tenths and a good 2.5 mph total.
Like I said, the truck seems to run great and never missed a beat, I just don't know why it slowed down?
Whatever, I can still smoke 'em off into 3rd gear!
