Ok quick question, If I have a detonation problem will running a cooler plug help any at all, or is the only way to fix it is to retard the timing on the chip?

Hopefully JL or Sal will see this and answer. i would think some could be cleared up by cooler plugs. I am having somewhat of the same problem, I think Mine is due to cool air. It does not so it all the time, But I am thinking about changing plugs as well...

iculokn, Hey buddy I talked to a lot of friends today and hopfully got us an answer. Yes going to a cooler plug can help with a detonation problem. If your having a real small problem with it you may just need to close the gap up some. Definetly get rid of the stock Platinum plug because the hold heat bad. With a TR5 plug its usually set at .040, then go to .035, this would give you less chance for detonation. If your haveing a bigger problem than go with the TR6 and may even need to gap it down also. The Autolite103 plug is being used by alot of people because it is a very cold plug and guess what it same as a NGK TR6. Anyway if your also haveing a detonation be sure and use a good Octane booster, If the plugs and Octane booster don't fix it don't run it hard until you get the timing retarded or you will be buying a new engine.
