Question Front End Alignment

Although, I have had really good experiences with my dealer, I have a warranty question. I have 27,000 miles on my '00 L and when rotating the tires, I had noticed that there was excessive wear on the inside of my front left tire. When they did the alignment, they had to install the shim kit ($45.00) and performed the alignment , charging me a total of $140.00. I was told that since the L is over 12months/12,000 miles mark, that the alignment and shim kit would not be covered under warranty. I have the clunking issue fixed and I was told at that time, the alignment was within specs. Shouldn't the alignment and shim kit be covered under warranty???
Please help!!!
Thanks!

Hey man, its Jon

Don't know if you remember, we met in the Salem center parking lot off Rt. 40, I have the red 99 L...we were just BS'n for a while.

I think dealerships treat alignments just like any other maintenance, like an oil change or tune up, and won't pay for it. Don't feel too bad. I was just charged $210 for Winner to put in 2 cam bolt kits, and align it. And i supplied the kits! It was $150 for the labor to put in the kits, and $60 for the alignment.

Come by the office again, i completed the stereo and got a few more goodies

The more I read about the cost people are paying for alignments, etc., the luckier I feel.

Two weeks ago, I had a new Magnaflow installed (3rd different exhaust to try out) plus an alignment.

My bill: $159.00 for everything.

Yeah, I feel like i was ripped off...but what can ya do?

The alignment was only 59.99 at a Ford dealership, the expensive part was the $150 labor cost for 2 hours to install the cam kits

Ford should have included and installed the cam kits for free, since they are not installed at the factory with them. If Ford is unable to align it to factory specification without them, then they should be installed at the factory or by the dealer at no cost. JMO.

When I had a new suspension installed on my L, the shop installed the cam kit at the same time because they knew the alignment wouldn't work without them (same shop I mentioned above).

When I got mine alligned I got my own cam bolts and the allignment shop charged me $60.00

They also bought me a new seat cover, not such a bad deal

Whats the dealers hourly rate? Allignment including replacing the bolts can be done within one hour.

I would go back to the dealer and tell them you want some money back. If they charge you more than one hour for labor, all I can say is thiefs and don't ever go there again.

Hey LightninSVT, how are ya? I will stop by soon to hear the tunes. I think I passed ya on day by Rt. 7 and Rt. 40, going westbound. I think that you had your parents with you. I was driving my Vette. So, if you saw a screwball waving from a green Vette, it was me. I was travelling incognito in my less conspicuous Vette!
I also agree that if they have to install a shim kit in order to have a correct alignment, it should be covered under warranty, JUST LIKE THE FRONT END CLUNK!!!! In fact, the service manager claimed that they install more of these shim kits than not! You would think that after hundreds of years to fix their front end problems, that they would get it right!!! Silly me

Hey Spike,

How do you like your Magnaflow? Did you get the xx468 or the xx568? I am getting ready to purchase the 14568 (quieter) and am wondering what you think of yours.

Of the three different exhausts I've tried, I like this one the best. I got the 14468. As far as noise is concerned, the supercharger will drown out the exhaust at WOT. At less throttle, it's nice.

My wife thought the muffler was "pretty" and likes the sound.

The stainless ones are "pretty"!

I am leaning towards the larger, quieter muffler. I want more sound, but I just don't want it to be annoying. Hopefully the 14568 will sound noticably better than stock. I wish I knew someone who had either one of these so I can listen to them in person! That's the only way to really be sure it's what you want.
