First Time Lightning Soon 02B Owners

This thread is for guys/gals who are anxiously waiting for their 02 L's to come in. I'm supposedly on a waiting list for the first black 02 L that comes in. The dealer going to give me a call when has the VIN # and ETA. Should I be pushy and call every couple of weeks or let things play out??

Anyway, going tback to original thought, how are you guys spending your time getting your mind off of thinking about thiis awesome machine? I visit this forum every day. Closest that I can come to owning an L right now reading other L owner's threads. You could say I'm living vicariously through you L owners. Am I a weirdo or has this been a common feeling among future 1st time L owners or previous 1st time L owners.

I know what you are going through. I ordered my truck about this time last year, and had to wait till the end of march to get it. I spent those months researching and buying mods.

It was hard looking at all the mods sitting at all the parts in my house with no L to put them on.

All I can tell you it will be worth the wait.

The Wait

I too, am "waiting" on an 02 Lightning. However, I have not ordered one as I am trying to save the remainder of a $10,000 down payment. Figure this coming June I'll do the deal.

I already have an X plan PIN just waiting for a dealer who will give me the discount. I have a son in KC whose dealer will give me X plan pricing, but I don't really want to buy it that far from home unless I have to. There are four SVT dealers in the Twin Cities and I spoke to one last week who says he'll do X plan or A plan or anything I have because the manager wants to sell vehicles. Well, we'll see. Funny how greedy they get when they have that first shipment of Lightnings on the lot.

I also have spoken to an auto broker who claims he can get me X plan as long as I have a PIN # and his fee would be included in the X plan pricing. So, it looks like I have several contingencies to work with; hopefully one will click. I still would like to know what the list price is going to be on an 02; hopefully it won't be much higher than the 01s.

In the meantime, I am trying to figure out which appearance goodies and mods I need to have right after I buy: (1) bed rug; (2) hard bed lid (3) FIPK, and so forth.

So, I have a whole winter ahead of me to plan, but it's damn hard to wait, that's for sure. I'm sorta "old" to be this nuts about a silly ol' truck, but maybe it's that when I was in high school, I always envied the kids whose parents had the $$$$$ to buy them a hot supercar...mine never had the income. Some of the **** I had to drive...a 59 Olds; a 59 Ford Galaxie (with hot pink upolstery); an endless succession of station wagons and mini-vans during the "early marriage" period, and so on. So, now I have the $$$$ to afford a totally useless "toy" and fulfill that youthful dream ;-)

Gonna keep the '97, however.

Yep!

I did something similar earlier this year. In fact, if not for this forum, I would have never bot or known about our awesome Lightnings . I came to f150online looking for info/mods for my 97 xlt and found the L board Stay calm--it'll get here one day.

I too had modest upbringing. I'll always remember us raising the windows on those hot summer nights to conserve the AC. I also remember the hot girls that rode the brand new candy red firebirds when I was riding in my '71 Nova. Now, like you, I deserve a toy, and even though I'd rather have a vette, this will do just find.

Hope your wait is pain free.

Well, not everything I owned as a kid was crap. Took my driver's license test in my dad's 55 Chev Nomad (wht over turrquoise). He bought it new and I sure wish I had it now!

Also owned a 62 Chev SS convert in college (pale yellow w/matching buckets and top); 327/250 HP, and also a 66 Dodge Charger; 383/4 spd. I wish I still had all of them.

I used to covet Corvettes, but they are (1) too much $$$$; (2) too common (3) too costly to insure. I like the "stealth" qualities of the Lightning and I just like pick-em-up trucks.

Whitesnake,

I know exactly what you are going through! My wife and I ordered a Blue Lightning the day before Halloween. I visit every website 4-5 times a day just to see what news or info I can find. We were told that our L would arrive about April or May, which was fine at the time, so we could save more for the downpayment, but I am so anxious, I don't know if I can wait that long.

I sent a request to my salesman to give me a heads up on any new info on build dates, our order number and how many are ahead of us, but have heard nothing. Please let us know if your salesman is able to provide you info.

Congrats on the new L and I am sure we both we realize it was worth the wait!

no, Toys R Us wont have them, but a local hobby store might. I got mine at www.towerhobbies.com

here is the kit (will require electonics also):
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...1&I=LXGA59&P=7

or the ready to run kit (comes w/everything you need :radio, electronics etc...the only downside is the pre-painted body, which you can get another one for around $15 somewhere)
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...1&I=LXVZ15&P=7

a few more pics in sig, theres a few other guys on here that got 'em too - theres alot of hop-up parts for it too

I'm not sure if he can help, but a member here with the screen name : Bill Murray : owns a hobby store and might be able to help you out with getting a clear body - a local hobby store or maybe if you call Tamiya (not sure the #) they might have one. The unassembled kit comes w/ a clear body and one can of paint is plenty to paint it. I used a small can of silver (matched really well to the truck's color) and put about 3 coats on it w/more to spare.

Im sorta in the same boat.
I finally decided this past weekend to go ahead and get an L.
A buddy who has an L told me to talk to one peticular salesman who he knows personly, that will give me a good deal without any of the typical salesman BS.
Well the guy hasnt been there for the past 2 days so i havent gota chance to order one yet and its about to drive me nuts!

Until then I read this board a lot and think about my future L.

You ARE weird! Just kidding, you'll love it. Take that from a former diehard chevy driver. There is NO other truck like it on the planet! Hang in there, you big silly, it'll come sooner than you think.
