Question 90 Octane

Hey guys I have a problem,

As you may remember from my previous posts I am awaiting the delivery of my 02L. The problem is that where the truck is going we only have 87 & 90 octane unleaded fuel. I was informed that the truck might have problems running on 90 octane, detonation being the first.

Any suggestions on what to do with this pridicament would be grately appreciated.

I so want to have this truck

90 octane will work just fine!

Fowl,
From my experience, 90 'tane runs perfect W/O a hint of ping. Even in the hottest weather around the hill country! 'course it's sure nice to run across some good ole 92 and 93 grade now and again....Don't worry, your L will run just fine on 90.

just my 03 cents,
Spike

Thanks Raddred01, how long have you been running your L on 90 octane?

Since brand New.

With my 2000 L (previous truck) and my current '01 L, I used 90 octane prolly 90% of the time. The '00 truck, had Sals flip chip and never pinged w/90 octane. The Red '01 i be driving now, has just rolled over to 17000 miles and has not had any detonation either.
Man, I tell ya, I doo drive the chit of this red rascal too...90 works for me!

Hey Raddred

How many miles did you put on your first L running on 90 octane.

Anyone else running on 90? How many miles?

Smile Not nearly enuff....

...but I just had to have an '01 Lightning, so when I traded the '00 in , there were 22,552 miles on the odometer. Just so you know it, there were some posts either here or on the NLOC site. These ole boy's were talking about using 86 - 87 octane and having no problems. I'm not willing to take any chances, as less than 90 octane would prolly only go into my trucks tank in rare circumstances. This is why I'm considering getting one of the Tuners 4 way chips, utilizing one mode to accomodate lower grade fuels in situations where premium fuel was not available.

Is this possible, I was under the impression that we needed to use 91 octane and up, to use a chip. Is it really possible to use a chip while running 90 octane? (safely that is) If so I am very interested an explanation would be very helpful.

thanx

A good tuner can make a chip for 87 octane or 90 no problem.. The reason all the tuners talk about octane is they use the antidetonation features of 93 octane to allow them to use MORE timing to get better performance than stock. The more octane the more timing they can use

In your case you may give up a HP or 2 but the tuner should be able to give you peace of mind when running 90

Sorry about so many questions, but is it possible to use a #2 lower pully with 90 octane?
