Help-Truck Died while driving. Almost crashed

Tonight while I was driving my 99 truck it decided to all of the sudden die. The engine just shut off completely and the power steering locked up. I ended up almost crashing into a mailbox. I tried to start it again and about five seconds later it died again. Luckily I was only two streets down and had to push it home. THe only mods I have done to my truck are JL Ram Air and PSP chip. My dad is freakin pissed and thinks the PSP chip screwed up my truck. It has less then 14,000 mile on it. Any ideas of what to do. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Well, since you've had the chip for quite a long time, I'd say you really can't blame the programming on the chip for the stalling. It sounds more like the chip is not making good contact, which will cause the problem you have described. I suggest pulling the PCM out, taking the chip off, recleaning the PCB with some alcohol, and then reseating the chip again. Make sure the PLUG of the chip sits straight on the PCM and tape it on. And the lip on the cage should have been modified so that it does not push on the chip because that will cause problems over time. Give that a whirl and I'm sure that will solve it.

Maybe the drive belt for the power steering came apart whereby shredding some wiring causing the fuel pump and ignition to short out.

Darn '99 lightning's!

Thanks for all your quick responses. I'll try em out tomorrow. I never had a problem before. Nothing and now all the sudden it just died. It was very strange.

Cool Won't start

This has happened to me on several occassions. Check the chip, it's probably loose.

did you remember to put some gas in it?

every now and then if you forget to buy gas your car/truck will fail to run or start.

j/k

check your idle speed sensor.
this went out on my last truck.
i was driving and the rpm went up about 500 and then died. then it failed to restart.

could be many things though.

good luck.

i installed my own ram air the other day and had a simialr problem. it died while i was coming to a stop. but started right back up. the only mods i have are a k&n drop in, psp lower pulley, and exhaust, no chip. the only thing i could think of was that the engine was getting too much air . so i took the ram air off and the problem stopped. im not saying that this is your problem but you never know.
