2002 HD SC/SC Seems like a bargain to me

I will get killed for this, but what the heck.

According to BON quoting official FMC info (I checked it), one can now order the new 2002 Harley Davidson SuperCrew/Supercharged F150.

For $36,500, you get the obvious plus 4 full leather Captains Chairs seats, full console, Climate Control AC/Heat, keyless/keypad entry and a bunch of not insignificant other stuff.
You will have to pay extra for the super radio/CD player but the basic one is not too bad and if you want a moonroof that is extra as well so let's add another $2,000 for that.

Just looking at the economics, I paid just over $30.000 for what really is a pretty Plain Jane Muscle Truck and I think anyone who would like to order a 2002 HD may be getting a heck of a bargain.
While the HD will never reach Lightning performance parameters, for under $500 one could certainly reach close to 400 flywheel hp with a simple chip'nfilter setup and have a really large truck that would come fairly close to a not too well driven stock '99 in terms of 1/4 mile performance.

Just a thought for today. Happy Thanksgiving to All.

Bill

Invoice on the HD SuperCrew is under 32k. Not a bad deal. However, you can't compare it to the Lightning. There are a lot of cars/trucks with the same engine as performace models. Look at the Impala SS, Ford Crown Vic, etc. They have or had the same motors as Corvettes, Camaro's, Mustangs, etc., but the are far from race cars. What makes the vehicle fast is suspension/handling and power to weight ratio.

Yes, the HD is heavier, but it has the same suspension as the Lightning.

I agree, Bill

I just hope that SVT had a little to do with the brakes and handling as well. I'm sure you'll agree that besides the power of our L's, I love the how much better it handles and brakes as well.

I would think that they would have upgraded the suspension and brakes if they were gonna add the huffer. Did I read somewhere that the H-D will be lowered by 1"? Not sure.

Later,

Collin

Collin:

According to published reports, it is lowered 1 inch but nothing I have seen states how. I have also been unable to determine if the shocks/springs and transmission have been upgraded/changed or made "equal" to a Lightning. Someone said the suspension was the same as a Lightning, but the press release indicates the 1 inch lowering is "new".

I suspect where this is going is that while not an SVT derived vehicle, it will still probably be the fastest and perhaps best handling 4 door pickup on the planet which is worth something I would imagine.

I agree it may have the same suspension, but the heavier you go the harder it is to control. I think the HD w/ the Lightning motor will be a cool and fast truck. It's a good compromise for a larger family. I may need one in a few years....I have a baby coming in June so the Lightning will still work for now.

Hey, Bill Murray, you still around. Long time, no hear. Same on this end. many of us old timers are just laying back reading, not
much posting. Have you got that Town Car in the 12's yet ? We
needed some new "flame" material, lol.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

I don't believe Ford has come out with firm MSRP yet, but the 2001 HD SuperCrew was $36K. Adding the S/C will knock that price up a few grand, so don't expect to pay under $38K for it unless you get X-plan or invoice.

Just my $.02.

The pricing has been released. $36,000 MSRP and $31,xxx invoice. It's been posted on BON and a few other places.

I wonder if the brakes might be an upgrade for the Lightning. Considering the weight maybe Ford used bigger and better stuff..

And then theres the potato potato exhaust.....chuckle

Y2K Bolt:

Yup, still here and as you said don't post too much anymore. Not a negative, but I learned so much about how to get Moby up and running that I didn't need much more of that and i sort of just watch the '00 and 01 guys go through the same process.

I regret to say that the Town Car has become a garage queen for the last six months or so due to business pressures. I still would like to make her a sleeper, but to get from plus/minus 16 seconds to 12 is a quantum leap. Presently I am thinking of trying to get another 100=120 hp out of her with a mild blower and the usual chip'nfilter stuff and hope for a potential high 14 second machine.

As I have posted elsewhere, I am pretty commited to ordering an 02 HD SC/SC in the grey color with a few factory add ons and would most likely do the chip/filter thingie and a less expensive exhaust treatment than I did on the Lightning. Maybe even, "GLASSPACKS".

From an investment point of view, at the tender age of almost 62, it makes not very much sense for me to hold on to Moby until she is worth twice what I paid for her. Right now, I can sell the truck for about $8K more than I owe and that should not change by May when the lease is up.

While the HD is not, and never will be, a Lightning, you have to move on with your life. Kind of like I dated the head cheerleader but I married the valedictorian if you know what I mean.

Have a great tomorrow.

Bill

That smells fishy to me. They've added more the HD for 2002, but are selling it for the same price? Either Ford's smoking some major weed or false information was released. When they made changes to the Lightning from 2000 to 2001 they jacked up the price. Why would they not do it here, when they are upgrading the engine, dropping blower on it, and adding a few other goodies? I'm just thinking out loud here, but I'm wondering what Ford is doing....

Bill Murray, the 02 harley is lowered an inch, as are the 01 and 00's. they all are. It has the L suspension. I can confirm this cuz when i rotated my tires, the springs and stuff had svt stickers on them, and on the window sticker, it said svt suspension, and muffler.
