The dreaded is coming.....I will be putting the L away for the winter. Any tips and tricks?

Tip: Winter tires and some weight in the back will help it from getting lonely.

Trick: Stay out of the boost when it gets messy.

Put it up in the air. All 4 wheels off the ground. Remove the wheels and bag them. Lightly support the suspension.

Put gas stabilizer in the tank and fill it with gas. If the tank is low, you can get condensation in there, and you will end up with water in the gas. When I store mine, I take it out for a drive every 2 or 3 weeks. If you do this, make sure you get the engine up to operating temp. If you just drive it a couple of minutes you get condensation in the exhaust, and if the exhaust is not hot enough to burn this off, your exhaust may start to rust.

Thumbs up What they said

And maybe pull the battery and put it somewhere warm and charge it every now and then. And also moisture bags or something equivalent placed in the interior if you don't drive it at all over the winter to keep the moldy smell away. It will sweat (even inside) if it's not in a temperature controlled environment.

loosebolt, thanks for asking the question. I'm getting ready to do the same with mine. Just picked up my winter car yesterday, a 91 Civic.

Where in SE MI do you live? Anywhere near Downriver? I"m in Southgate.

it is so nice to see that i am not the only one who refuses to see a 40k truck get destroyed by the crappy salt they feel the need to poor all over our roads here. all my friends rag on me for driving a rice burner in the winter and storying my truck. i have a heated garage so i don't really have to do much to my baby as far as winterizing him.

Loosebolt -

You implied you are cancelling your insurance by saying you can use that money for mods. Make sure your homeowners covers your truck while it is parked in the garage. God forbid you have a fire or someone burglarizes your house.

Protect your self for a few extra bucks.

All good suggestions for storage. I especially like to see cars run every once in awhile even if they are on jackstands. Keeps things lubed, rust-free and seals/gaskets in good shape.

Bring your Lightning to my house, Park it in the driveway, and Leave the keys in the mailbox. I promise no ice will befall your Lightning, and the gas won't go bad either.

Unhappy Wrong sex!!!!!!!!!

Skagel, are you the guy with the Silver L I saw yesterday at Bestbuy?

Hey Chainsaw13 I am pretty sure Skagel (Sarah Kagel) is a female

Anyway, I put mine up on stands last weekend and covered her in my garage for the long haul. I have a 96 Ranger Splash that I have had for 6 years and that will be my only set of wheels for the next 4 months or so.

All the previously stated ideas are great too.

loosebolt, Chainsaw13, Skagel......do you guys ever do anything with MiLOC (Michigan Lightning Owners Club) just curious.

Put it in one of those big storage bags. Think I saw them in one of the mags like Car and Driver.

NeedFourSpeed--I appreciate the concern....I will be leaving comprehensive, but dropping collision. I just picked up my 89 F150 4X4 for the winter.

Chainsaw--I live in Romulus. I had the red 01 with the bra at the SVTOA event a little while back

Soap--I haven't done much with the MiLoc yet. The woman is getting involved in the local SVTOA chapter, so I am sure that will be next.
