There is, but then there isn't... When you have to remove the chip, you could clear the PCM and put the cover back on the computer. They wouldn't know unless they pulled it out and looked at the contacts.

Yeah, kinda

The contacts seem to have some sort of silicone type gunk on it (from what other people post) and they say you can buy it at electronics stores. I guess you could re-apply that stuff every single time you go to the dealer.

Thumbs down Power Chips

Unfortunately, there is no way to hide it.

The second you fire it up with a chip in, the program filename, as well as the time & date you installed it (and other information too) is stored (somewhere) and can be viewed by the Service Technicians during a diagnostic procedure. The only reason I know this is because I had a friend (who is a Service Technician at Ford) see if he could tell if me if the '99 L I bought used had ever been chipped before. That's when he told me about the data log file. It's kind of like a history of what's been done to (and by) your computer. I believe it is only accessible to Ford Service Technicians, but don't quote me. . .I can't remember all of what he told me about it.

Now- having said that it is NOT a warranty violation to install & use an aftermarket chip. I wouldn't go cruising down to the service dept. with it STILL IN YOUR COMPUTER. . .but they can't do anything just because you had a chip in.

Talk to Johnny Lightning, or PSP, or really any of the programming dealers and they can give you more detailed information on Chips, their legality and so on.

Hope this helps.
