Keypad on 2002 L's...
As a general rule I'm an option junkie, ordering all that's available on my vehicles. However, I'm not sure about the keypad on the 2002 L's. In my opinion the keypad clutters up the smooth lines of the L. What real value is a keypad to any vehicle with a remote? I'm not saying the L's look will be ruined, I just feel like Ford must have been looking for someting, anything, to set the 2002's apart. And that's fine with me, if I didn't have my 2001 L it wouldn't keep me from jumping into a 2002 but it isn't an upgrade I'm interested in myself. Oh, & I think the True Blue looks pretty good, but I'll wait to see it in person before making my final decision. Good luck to you all.

I have and know I don't have to worry anymore.
Thanks captain, that actually never occured to me for some reason. I've locked my keys in the car twice that I recall in 30+ years of driving, but not since my vehicles have come with remotes. I always exit the vehicle then lock it using the remote. It seems the logical thing to do, but I can certainly understand that someone along the way has, & will again lock the keys in their L. After spouting off about how I "ALWAYS' use the remote, I'll probably do it myself tomorrow. That's how it usually happens. Thanks for your response.
I think the keypad would be nice. My dads sportrac has it on there and it is nice when getting something out without having to dig around for keys. With my remote start, the doors lock automatically in 3 seconds. I have (2 times) started the truck and for some reason shut the door real quick while outside, the keypad would be nice if that ever happened.
What the Captn says and also its nice to leave running and LOCKED when I run in to get a paper at 5am on my way to work. Especially on a morning like this, 40's, windy and raining. Did I say raining
I think I'll drive the LTD this morning

Along with what captainoblivious pointed out, another reason is if you go someplace that you'd prefer not to carry keys, like the beach! Or if you like to drive to a nice trail to go for a run. It's just nice to know you can always get into your vehicle, with or without keys. I'd get that option for sure.
I like the the keypad because I can leave my truck running (I'm a Firefighter/EMT) when I'm on scene. It keeps the battery from draining since I have my headlights, flashers and strobes running. On my Cobra, I have to carry a spare key in my wallet (not a PATS key, I just had a key cut so I can open the doors with it) because the key fob won't open the door while the engine is running, which sucks!
