Hey SVT Girl....Since i assume you will be running the stock F1's I suggest that you stay clear of the water and just a slight powerbrake to clean the tread. Then ease to the lights and stage shallow. Have your left foot on the brake and right on the gas and bring the rpms to about 1000. Then when the lights come on let off the brake and apply the gas gradually...just at the edge of spinning. Should take about a second or two to be at full throttle.....then just hang on for the ride

Start EASY! The L has lots of low end torque and spins tires easy. If you hold the break and rev to 800 rpm and ease into it you should be pleased. If it sticks good, try launching a little harder till you find where it wants to bust loose. (don't go above that, hehe!) You really have to be patient and not MASH the pedal unless you have slicks. After that, point 'er straight and HOLD ON!!! If youre good your 60' times will be around 2.10 to 2.00 It just takes practice. Good Luck!

SVTgirl: more than you ever wanted to know

Even though I'm a little older than you are(wanna bet?), I just started drag racin' back in June with my 01.

Fold your mirrors back, drop the rear air pressure to 27lbs(lots of discussion on this), place your seat as close to the front as you can-leaving room for your left knee--with your back firmly against the seat-back, turn your overdrive 'off', drive out/around the water 'box'(slight dip in the track), and place your L in the blackest 'lines' leading up to the staging line.

There is a lot of controversy about whether you should do a 'burnout' while on stock tires. I've read and been told both sides--a little 'chirp' of the tires probably won't hurt but I think a 5 or 6 sec. dry burnout won't help your times any and may do damage to the trans, torque converter(sprags), and drive train.

Left foot on the brake, rt. lightly on the pedal--approach the staging line with front wheels/steering wheel straight--creep the last few inches until you see the pre-stage(top two, small lites) lite come on--wait until your opponent turns his p/stage lite on, then creep forward 9" to turn the 'stage'(two, small lower) lights on, wait for him to 'stage'(your opponent may just rush up and go to 'stage' without waiting on you-bad manners), hold the brake firmly as you bring the rpms up to 8 or 900 revs--watching the three amber 'tree' lights--AS the third amber starts(each amber comes on in 1/2 second intervals) to come on(don't wait for the 'green'), release the brake and 'roll'(not smash) onto the throttle pedal. Go to wide open throttle(WOT)--elbows slightly bent--wheel straight--and whup his azz!!!

NOTE: If the rear end starts(tires spinning) to come 'around' on you, don't stomp the brake, just come off the throttle and the truck should straighten out--then roll back onto the throttle and try again. IMPORTANT--know where the turn-offs are--there should be 2 or 3 after the 1/4 mile mark--slow down and turn onto the turn-off--DO NOT turn around on the track. That could ruin your day!

Practice practice practice

Some people do burnouts, I do a quick burnout and that works for me, another guy I met lights up his F1's like a pair of slicks.
I prefer to launch from idle, others go to 1000rpm+.

Practice practice practice

And don't get discouraged if you don't do good.

I drive straight through the water box and then do a burnout for 4-5 seconds at around 3000rpm's, I have been doing them more lately since it's been really cold, especially at night with no sun to warm the track, I think it helps to get the tires nice and warm.

Anyway, I launch right at around 1000 rpms. I have repeatedly cut 1.81 60fts with this technique with 32psi in my F1s.

I have heard of some people getting some mid-high 1.7 60fts on F1's, I don't know what they are doing, but I can't get below my 1.81.

Also, Try to get to the track as soon as they open and get tech'd in BEFORE they open the lanes, this way you can get right up at the front of the line and get a few back to back runs in before the waiting lines get long. This way you can make a run and drive right back around and run again, you'll be able to compare what you did on the last run etc. and see what works best and how changing things effects your results.

Good luck.

Later,
Chris

P.S. Like some others have said, practice practice practice. You will learn what works best with your truck and your local track.
