I got a ride in a new '02 a while back also. I wasnt 'that' impressed. The acceleration wasn't that neck snapping, face distorting force that i was expecting. Fast? Absolutely. But, I guess I'm spoiled living with a 12 second truck every day.

A 2002 z06 will run 12.7 stock.

And as far as top end and handling goes they are out among the elite.

It is a totally different animal. It is a near 50K sports car.

If I was arrested and the judge sentenced me to drive a Chevy, the Z-06 would be my choice.

I drove a 2002 Z06 about 2 months ago. The dealer wanted my Harley F-150. (they could make more profit on the used car lot with the Harley F-150 then profit selling the Z06 NEW).

I was very impressed with the performance (I have owned other corvettes in the past) The Z06 is very much a performance car and would look good sitting next to the Harley F-150 in the garage. Since I dont drive the Harley F-150, I came to my sences and decided I dont need two unused collector vehicles at this time. The markets just are not making it happen for me right now. Thats the whole reason I am investing in future valuable cars, they earn more money in the long run then any other investment out there. Anyone seen what a 1964 Grand Sport corvette has sold for. Back in 1988 think it was called black monday all the doctors stop investing in the market and invested in cars and real estate. They all did good here in Florida.

Just my 2 ceints about the Z06
in a nut shell it will make a good investment
but if I was going to make it a daily driver and beat on it at every stop light, I would get a L
One last statement
Is Ford building the L's and Cobra's every year now. They used to only build them every few years. Now seams like they have started building them every year. This drops the value of the older ones.
This worries me cause the Harley was only to be a five year deal and could Ford change there mind on that the same they did on the L's and Cobra's all for the sake of profit.

But who am I to speak, I only collect them for profit too.

I'm sorry, but I don't see the Lightning, harley truck, or Z06 paying off as an investment in my lifetime - and I just turned 28. They are all nice vehicles and should be taken care of properly to sell for highest dollar but I just can't see MAKING money on them. There is a 00 Harley truck in the paper for $24,000 OBO - a 01 Z06 for $39,999 OBO and I always notice GEN 2 L's for $22k -$24k. I remember everyone was snatching up Grand Nationals to try and make money. Now I see them for $7k - $8k all day long. I say buy what you like and enjoy the hell out of it. Not meant as a flame to anyone, just my opinion. And for the Z06 - awesome car Probably will be my next car WITH the L.

Hey Keith. I thought you were gonna call today? I just got back from meeting the F-Body guys. They were pretty cool. I told them about my buddies Lightning that was very quick. They responded with, "Yeah, there's a guy that came over to the LS1 board and talked some *****. His name was 10secL." I about pissed my pants. Maybe you can make the next one. We need to do some interstate runs again and compare them to last time.

As far as a collectible car. I don't see Z06s being that rare in the future. I bought mine to enjoy it while I'm still breathing..... I love the "old mans sports car" label. This old man will turn the big "three oh" in a few years....

Hey Paul. What were you doing up so late? I thought you "old people" went to bed at 8pm? *LMAO* ...... Next time we all meet up, I'll take you for a spin. As for the ***-o-meter scale, to me the car doesn't "feel" that much faster than the coupe. Of course when I test drove a stock Lightning, I thought there was now way that truck would hit 14s because it didn't "feel" fast. And we all know that is not true. ....

owned both, comments follow...

Having owned a '99 L, '01 Z06 and an '01 Lightning my comments follow:
- the Z06 gets 24-25 mph crusing at 80 mph vs. L at 13 mpg.
- acceleration in the Z is more visceral, the L more deceptive
- the Z's exhaust may be titanium but it would sound much better with some Magnaflows or equivalent
- the superhcarger always reminds me of the movie "Mad Max"
- if you still commute in heavy traffic areas the L easily gets the nod
- drag strips are one thing - road courses another
- the 20 hp. increase is on the '02 , not the "01
- the "02 also got the HUD, which is very nice
- the Z is much more noticeable on the highway than the L, which looks pretty much like another pickup until you get close -- read better stealth vehicle
- both benefit from having a Valentine
- this is a clear win-win comparison

Last Sat. I let a 16 year old girl that had just got her drivers license drive my Lightning. On her second run with the Lightning she had the same e.t. as a slightly modded Z06. The Z06 was driven by a very experienced racer.

Point is that a Z06 is nice but there are many Lightnings that won't get left in the dust.
