Smile Question for Stock Lightning Owners

My wife and I have ordered an 02 Lightning (True Blue). I am not going to do any engine modifactions to it, except installing a K&N Airfilter. I do not have the desire to change or need to increase the speed of the Lightning.

Please don't get me wrong, everyone that's changing the engines, body, or other majors changes, I have nothing against. You are doing what you want and having fun.

I have a 2001 Monte SS (Not fast, but really like the looks) and a 66 Mustang GT Fastback (wife gave it to me for Christmas last year) and I am going to do some changes to the Mustang to increase the power.

My main question is concerning the sound system and any other cabin changes that you have done. What do you feel is the most important or most enjoyable item to change or improve? I'm looking for a suggestion as to what stereo fits the best and looks good when replacing the stock stereo. Any tidbits are appreciated.

Oh, to be a virgin again....

Seriously, one of the best modifications you can make to the interior is soundproofing(Dynamat). MTX makes a great unit called a Thunderform that holds 2-10" subs. A nice large amp. fits perfectly under the pass. seat.
Replacement of the factory 5x7(6x9) is recomended. Stock head unit is fine left as is so the factory changer still works.

Anybody else?

Thanks

I looked at my thread after I posted it and realized that I made it sound like I didn't want the Mod Owners answering. Sorry to seem stuck up. Appreciate everyone's input.

Happy Thanksgiving (week early)

Hi sarge and congratts on the new truck you will love it.

What I did was put a Alpine head unit and 6 disk CD changer in mine, along with 2 sets of JL Audio coax speakers. It was real easy to install and sound a ton better than stock. I guess I would call it a simple but clean sounding system.

here are some pics

Hope that gives you some ideas

Don

Talking Without a doubt the sound system.

I am by no means an audiophile. I generally like the stock sound systems of most modern vehicles but the Lightning's stock setup......well.......kinda.....you know......sucked. Yeah I think that is the technical term for it.

I replaced all the speakers with Pioneer 2 ways and the head unit with a Rockford Fosgate MP3/CD player. I dynomated everything and I am very very happy now. I didn't want to spend 8000.00 on sound components, I just wanted a nice sounding system. All said and done it cost me about 400.00 to upgrade.

Here is link to my gallery. Under tearing her apart is some pictures of the install if it helps. There are a couple of picks of the stereo but they are not that good.

Good Luck

I would buy a sub with an amp powering it first,,, that way you'll know how much bass you need,,, and you'll know just how much mid range speakers and or amps you'll need to make it sound good to your ears. Remember, its best to start out with the minimum and let your ears tell you what you need next if you are not planning on spending a ton. Although i have found that bass is addictive,, i had to put two 10 inch subs in just so i could feel it a little more. Maybe your not so in to feeling your music yet,, but i swear,, after you get a taste of it, its very addictive.

In the end i am very happy with my two 10w0 jl audio subs, pci 300 watt amp powering both subs, stock speakers,, and a very powerful and very well priced alpine audio 7873 head unit. This head unit alone makes my stock speakers distortion free for full volume and i'm very happy with the full volume

the very first thing is to change the 2 door speakers to something decent. the difference is like night and day, and you might not want to go any farther ( i didn't). some of the guys here recommended it, and it was the best $100 i spent

mo bass

First off, I only want to suppliment the bass of the stock system (is there any) so can I add a sub to the stock system-are there line in/out connections on it? and do you know the size of the door speakers and got recommendations for replacements? I like sound but I usually don't even turn it on-like the sound of exhaust.
