Am i killing my ET with 11.5in ET streets?
Am i killing my ET with 11.5in ET streets?
I have a 01 L with basically no mods. The only thing i've done is put a cut-out on for a little exhaust noise, but nothin more than that. I didn't want to keep usins my F1z for racing, so i went out and and bought 26x11.5x16 MT ET streets. Went to the track and ran an 8.822@79.61 with a 1.994 60' foot with the new ET streets. Then, i put the F1z on and ran an 8.792@80.46 with a 1.997 60 foot. Are these ET streets hurting me because they are too wide, or should i put more air in to make less of the tire touch the floor. Thanks
The differance in the two runs are just changes in track condions, air conditions, and/or truck condition. The ET Streets will give alittle less MPH than the F1's will. Other than that on a stock truck there should be no change.
Once you create more power, the ET Streets will prove them selves more and more...

HyeBolt, I had sone time developing good 60' times there last night too. I think that the track prep was a little marginal. My best 60' was 1.901. I've run .03 better there before.
One thing that you must do with these tires is a heavy burnout to heat them. I was having a problem getting the truck to upshift, and hit the rev limiter twice.. Do you know what a Lightning will run with no boost? I do!.
Nice meeting you there.

I had a great time last night.
Ran a bunch of personal best's, but, Ive only run at Palmdale previously, so I expected that
I ran the following three runs:
1st 2nd 3rd
60' 1.96 1.903 1.863
1/8' 8.407 8.370 8.324
mph 85.02 83.61 83.90
The first run was on F1's just to get the race-bug out of my system before I put the MT/ET streets on and sat in the line...2nd and 3rd runs were with ET Streets @ 12psi
Looking forward to doing it again!

Jay-
It was nice to see some other Lightning owners out there, but i forgot to ask about the run you got a little squierrly (sp?) down the track. My brother was watching and said it got a little crazy. Anyways, i guess i need some mods now that i have traction. Hope to see u out there again, or maybe around town. (I'm in Whittier).

It's the drag or tire height
If you are not getting better 60' times, then a radial tire is better than a bi-ply slick. When slicks are run at lower air pressures they have significantly more HP robbing drag. You'll notice this if you ever try to push your car with slicks in the staging lanes. The other factor is tire height. Even a small change can effect the total "gearing" of the drivetrain. By-plias tires have a significant amount of growth in relation to mph. Mickey Thompson's FAQ stated that most of their slicks grow 1" to 1.5" at 150 MPH. That means probably .75" to 1" at 100 MPH.
On vehicles like Lightnings with stock stall convertors drag radials might produce better ET's than a by-ply slick.
