Don't take this the wrong way, but if you're not going to do a chip or a pulley, you might as well not do anything. None of the other mods except maybe a filter kit, is going to give you any kind of gain that you'll really feel. If you did a throttle body, filter kit, and electric fan (really the only three things you can do that fit your criteria), combined they wouldn't give you as much power or ET reduction as a chip or pulley by itself.

Put sugar in the tank, then burn the truck cause without a chip minimum it's just a fancy truck.

Thats the thing I hate about these newer vehicles, computers control anything and you can't do much without a chip. Some other stuff work, but not for much power. Other stuff doesn't work or will cause problems/annoyances b/c they need a chip.

I think there was a posting before about this, but i am not so sure how they answered it. It looks like you just want to switch stuff out whenever you take it into the dealership. I wonder if anyone has tried to switch the chips before they take it in and seen if the dealership noticed it was ever switched in the first place.

Maybe it's just me, I would rather plug a chip in instead of pulling the heads to install a cam, then install a new intake and carb to pickup 40/50 hp! I love this EASY hp

you should put a supercharger on it, that'll make it almost as fast as one of those new Cobras!

Well it really all depends on what you want to do with the truck. If you are looking for dyno numbers or E.T. reductions then a chip or pulley will get that for you. If you are just wanting some mods it make the truck more fun to drive you have some options. A nice single blade throttle body will make the throttle response better and make the truck feel quicker in normal driving. A filter kit will also do the same since it lets the truck get the air it needs when it needs it. Added benefit of the air filter is you can hear the supercharger more. Electric fan will let the truck rev a bit faster and keep the temperature a little more consistant. Plus you can also adjust your boost actuiator <spelling> I have yet to see one of these trucks where this was not in a little bit of a bind. You can also make the boost come on earlier with this adjustment.
Now is all of this going to knock .5 to 1.0 seconds off your quarter time? No it's not going to do that. Will it make the truck more fun to drive down the street to the store or to work? Yes, And it might even give you a few MPG's to boot. I have been reading this board for a long time and I think people tend to forget not everyone is looking for the best drag race E.T. No matter what you do to the truck enjoy it. There it my 2 cents.

Synthetic oil--Mobil 1, Amsoil, or my favorite--Royal Purple #11(5W20) and a K&N Gold oil filter. A K&N panel air filter--stock air box

I, like Probleminfected want to do some minor mods without raising warranty issues.

Does the installation of a filtercharger, or single blade throttle body have the potential to raise issues at my service departmant ?

I would do an electric fan. I just had one done on my truck and I now get 2 more miles per gallon and the truck is much quieter.

Reset your alarm clock to an earlier time and then go for a drive.

Spike

Instead of messing with the engine, have you considered upgrading the brakes and suspension?re.

Probleminfected,

No problem, There are alot of things you can do that make the truck more fun. Put a shift kit in the transmission not only will it make it last longer but it's sometimes fun to bark the tires when it shifts. You can do a search on the boost actuaitor there have been alot of threads on it. One guy here has a really good web site that shows good pictures and explains it real well. If you can't find it drop me a note I have it bookmarked at home.

Whitesnake,

Drop me a note I always enjoy talking with other Lightning owners in the area. If your intrested I am going to try the truck out at the SCCA race this sunday. It's at the birmingham race course.

BaddKharma,

A K&N filter or a throttle body usually will not even raise an eyebrow at a dealership. Of course any part on the truck that is not OEM from Ford can cause a problem. It all really depends on the dealership and the service writer. I have seen over the years Trucks/Cars bone stock but with alot of rubber in the rear wheel wells get denied because of abuse. On the flip side I have also seen Trucks/Cars with full nitrous systems in plain view get everything taken care of under warranty. In the end it's a personal decision. With the minor mods we are talking about in this thread I personally don't see a problem but someone else may. But your risk of having anything denied in my opinion would be low.
