Talking ***** $12 Breather Mod *****

Finally got around to putting a crankcase breather putting on on the L. I've seen the Ford Racing breather (in place of the oil filler cap) on DL's truck but I wanted to keep my chrome MGW oil filler cap. After seeing Speedin' Bob's post on his $22 breather mod (on NLOC), I thought I could do a little better. How's $12 sound?

Parts
(1) HELP 5/8" bypass cap (pn 02252) $1.99
(1) HELP PCV system elbow (pn 47046) $1.99
(1) Breather cap (forgot name) $7.99
(1) 3" piece of 5/8" heater hose $0.00

I found all parts at Autozone except the hose (had it from working on the SVO). The breather was over in the RICER section. I was walking THRU it and happened to see it (I was... REALLY). It's got an 11/16" rubber fitting on it but with a little trimming of the small "lip" and a little cussin' and fussin' it will go in the 5/8" hose.

To replace the plastic hose from the valve cover to TB:

Take the PCV elbow and put one of the 5/8" caps over the LARGE opening. Loosen the clamps the that holds the MAF to TB rubber elbow and pull the fittings out of the bottom. In place of the plastic driver's side hose, push the small end of the elbow in. Replace the rubber elow and the two remaining fittings. Pull the small ~1/2" plastic hose and small rubber elbow from the driver side vent on the valve cover. Now push the 5/8" hose with the breather on it on to the nipple on the valve cover. Step back and admire your work. Takes all of 5 minutes. I didn't have very much oil in the hose before this so now I shouldn't have any.

One interesting note:
With the rubber TB elbow off, I rotated the throttle linkage to WOT. The blades WERE NOT PERFECTLY FLAT. The plastic "STOP" on the linkage keeps it from rotating to perfectly flat. Wonder if this makes any difference on the "top end"??

Here I go again--havin' to hep you

The throttle plate/body asm. is at an angle. The plate looks like it's not fully open, but it is-----honest . At least my single plate is--I would think your OEM plates are too.

Btw, I was attempting to do the very mod you posted about today too. Couldn't get all the parts(filter, elbow) I needed at Pep Boys(special order), Auto Zone or Advance Auto. Will try again tomorrow.

You must be holdin' you're head at an angle. Mine's probably 10-15 degrees from being parellel to the assembly. Maybe I need to file down the plastic stop to allow full rotation but what would that mean... I get even more "FASTER THAN LIGHTNINROD"! lol

Wait(no joke) before you do any filing or grinding and let some of the more experienced guys chime in. There was an earlier thread about this some months ago.

There is a slight declination angle of the intake-TB assembly but looking at it AGAIN it's off ~5 degrees. Not alot but some. I had to do the same thing to my '99 Cobra, it was slightly off as well. Would it gain anything, possibly, but then again ther are guys that polish the openings and level the set screws as well.

Might get the chance to lay the smack down on a Z-06 again this Saturday night. BTW, it WAS bad gas last Saturday. I ran the tank out till I was on fumes and nervous as sheit then went to my normal gas station. Not a ping since!

I guess smile gas is off my list of stations now...

Glad to hear you don't have to send the chip back for a reburn..

I get back in town Sat. morning, I may have to try and lay down some smack on that Z06 myself Sat. night...I know I'll be pumped when I get back home, especially after watching some 11 sec L's run Fri. night @ Cecil..
