FlashSVT did this mod. Try a search under that screen name. If not here it might be over on NLOC.

I got mine off of Ebay. I think it is a worthwhile investment.

Is that similar to the new ones in the Mustangs?? I looked at a 2002 GT the other day when I picked up my L from the intercooler swap and noticed the new in dash 6 cd changer. If I don't add an XM rdy HU, I may add the Ford in dash and replace the speakers. How is the sound of that compared to the stock L HU?

The CD-6 that was installed is a Ford OEM part, I believe this one came out of a F-250. Visteon is the manufacturer for Ford, and the CD-6's are in a lot of other vehicles in the Ford lineup. The reason they are not in the current F-150's is because the factory dash plastic doesn't allow for a full double-DIN head unit to be installed, but that is remedied with a quick pass of a Dremel.

I don't really know what to say about the sound, as I don't really know what to listen to in order to tell a real difference. I do know that the CD-6's built-in amplifier is more powerful than the stock head unit.

I have a thread on the CD-6 going in the "Other Audio" forum on this board.

I almost bought the CD-6 last night on Ebay for $235.00 but I changed my mind. If I do pick it up I would sell my current CD lpayer from my 2002 F-150. I looks just like the one in ASVTFordBoy pic.

Hey ASVTFordBoy, that looks exactly like my CD player. Even the AC controls, CCM Navigator Plus hands-free kit and reflection are the same. =/

SpoonDog,

Does that 6-disc deck interface with the 6-disc changer behind the seat? That would be cool...12 discs

ASVTFordBoy/ FlashSVT,

How about the single disc deck...Does it hook up to the stock changer?

Thanks,
-Kris

HMMM....

FlashSVT,

I guess you busted me. I saved your pic a while back when you posted it so I would know what to look for when I got mine. I just trimmed it up a bit.

Visteon also makes a Single CD MP3 Head unit that is a direct replacement for our head units. It will also allow you to use the changer.

Both of the Ford OEM head-units (the single and 6-disc) will control the stock changer in the Lightnings. So Flash has a 7-CD system and I have a 12-CD system.

Personally I added an alpine 7875 deck, boston accoustic front speakers, mtx two 10 box, and my PPI amps. I was HAPPY to get that POS factory out of there, it sound like total ***. Maybe i am bit too discriminating, but upgrading the deck alone made a HUGE differance on teh factory speakers.

If you are looking for a good bang for the buck from speakers, polk audio makes the ex 357 (5x7) and it sounds great for the money. Lots more bass, clearer treble...

Just my two cents.
Brandon
