In the shop

Just dropped my 00 off at the dealer for the new intercooler install. I was one of the lucky ones that is getting a cooler before it leaked. After some serious consideration I decided to leave all my mods in place. Chip, pulley, T/B, shift kit, etc. As I was dropping it off I asked if I could meet the tech that would do the work. No problem. I wanted to show him a few things that he may not be used to seeing. Popped the hood for him and got the following response. COOL! Looks like you have added some go-fast toys. He was way cool about everything. It was the first modded Lightning he had seen. He said it was about time someone tweaked one. I just chuckled.

If you haven't already done your 99-00 cooler make sure they give you a loaner car. It is part of the recall program. No charge as long as they have the truck. Mine is supposed to be done tomorrow. Also having the wiper recall done at the same time. Good plan to have any warranty/recall issues done at the same time. Easy way to get a free loaner if your dealer doesn't normally do that.

Side note. The dealer was still unable to find me a 01 L in silver or white so as a consolation they are giving me first shot on the silver 02 they have on order. X-plan no problem. No commitment needed. If I want it when it comes in it's mine, if not no big deal.

They had a true-blue Roush stage 3 covert on the showroom floor. Way too dark for me. At first it was hard to tell if it was blue or black. You guys that like the dark colors will love it. Oh and $57,800 for the car. YIKES! That's more than the Cobra "R" went for.

Let us know how the repair job was performed - scratches, grease, dirt, etc. Mine doesn't leak either and I'm really concerned about fixing something that ain't broken.

My mods are staying on too. I will have them document that the truck was A-OK when I dropped it off before they tear into the engine just for my peace of mind in case the engine blows 20 miles after leaving the dealership.

I would not take any chances with mods on the L. When my L had to go in for service, everything except the driveshaft loop and the shift kit were taken off (even the stock air box was put back on.) It only took me aprox 1/2 hour to put the stock things on. You never know if they are going to deny you service when you need it the most (blown motor).

In my case, with everything back to stock (almost) they did not question me at all when the truck needed a new motor. But I did ask them to put my new torque converter in and was told that they would but my waranty would be void. I look at this in 2 ways: 1 They are not making me sign anything and the first motor was lost without the torque converter in. 2 If it does happen again it will need to be done the right way (will rebuild myself).

Dealer just called and my truck is done. Took them less than 4 hours. I will post the results when I pick it up tonight after work.

Spoon,
I took it back to Suburban Ford in Sandy where I bought it. So far so good. While in their waiting area I noticed a few plaques on the wall that they sponsor some of the Drag events down at Woodburn.

No mention of the mods. Don't really care if they document it. I plan to have a tranny built anyway, and if the motor takes a dump I will build a monster for it. So for me the up front approach is the way to go. And if all else fails I have the option on the 02.

Washing your truck is also a part of the "loaner program"... For god sakes, DONT let them do it. Tell them 5 times while dropping it off and then call them immediatly after you get home remind them. My wifes Mazda got the "free" wash and now has swirl marks for eternity...(black car)...

Everything was perfect. No "custom" scratches or dings. Not a spot on the interior. Vacuumed but not washed (just like I asked). Everything under the hood looked good. No finger prints anywhere. Even got a box of chocolates with my paper work. Not one negative word about the mods. Suburban Ford in Sandy Oregon did a great job. Best Ford service experience I have had.

Thumbs up

Good deal! Glad to hear everything went smoothly for you.

Hmm, I'll have to see if I can dig up your email address, I have a question for you sometime.

I have not received the notice yet. I called the 800 number, 2 days later the parts were at the dealer of my choice. Made tha appointment, dropped the truck off afterwork on Tuesday and it was done by 11am Wednesday morning. Very happy with the results.
