Exclamation Intercooler Recall

Anyone seen the recall news for 1999 and 2000 Lightning supercharger intercoolers yet?

What type of problems have you had?

Do a search for the intercooler recall. I posted info on it last week. I got the info directly from SVT and Ford. I had mine replaced yesterday, my old one was fine, but had it done anyway.

No problem at all, I do it all the time. I hate sorting through all of the threads sometimes.

Got my notice 11/09 for my '99. Will wait awhile before I take it in to the Dealer. I want them to get some experience on other folk's trucks before I turned them loose on mine. My current intercooler is just fine.

Had my Dealer replace the SC belt and the serpentine drive belt. What a joke (on me). It took them a total of six hours to figure out how to replace the serpentine drive belt. They charged me $180.00 labor just to replace the serpentine drive belt. And it took three visits to get the truck fixed.

The Dealer's shop manual had no instruction on how to replace the Lightning serpentine belt.

Intercooler fix is supposedly a half day fix. The replacement kit has five or six different parts. It is the 2001 intercooler and I think it is a little larger than the 1999/2000 unit. Maybe we will get more performance as a result.

I would not return to where you had the drive belt replaced(except to ask for a refund). $180 is totally unacceptable.
I have the 2001 Workshop Manual and on page 303-05-9 and 303-05-10 it fully describes how to change that belt. It can't take longer than an hour to do that job.
Here are some pics from the ford manual.

Easterisland, thanks for the information. The Dealer told me they even had to remove the starter in order to remove and replace the supercharger drive belt.

They were very pleasant about the whole thing. Of course, if I was just as incompetent as they are, I would probably try and be pleasant too.

Oh, yes, one other thing. You said you have the 2001 Shop Manual. My Lightning is a '99. I wonder if this the problem.

Is the 2001 Manual applicable to only the 2001 Lightnings? I know it probably should not make a difference with regard to this procedure.

I received mine today. I was wondering if I would seeing that I traded it in in April.
