Toyo Proxes S/T questions

Does anyone have the stock size Toyos and if so how do they compare to the F1s? I want to know if they have better dry/wet weather traction, if they ride any different, how much longer they would last compared to the F1s, and if there is any added tire noise. Thanks for any info.

Since you asked, I actually just purchased two Toyo Proxes S/T 295/45-18 tires from

http://www.tiredepot.com

for $199 +s/h ($429 total delivered I believe). I really haven't had long enough to evaluate these tires in all situations, but I will give you my initial thoughts anyways. However, let me throw out a couple of disclaimers first: (A) tires usually come with some sort of protective coating on them, and I'm not sure that I've completely "burnt" through it yet; (B) I also just put in some Belltech drop shackles, so I can't fully differentiate what changes came from what; (C) I haven't tried them in the rain yet. That said:

(1) The tread pattern on the Toyo's is much more aggressive looking
(2) I think the Toyo's are a hair taller than the F1's...but not by much
(3) The tread on the Toyo's looks deeper than on my new F1's
(4) The (dry) traction on the Toyo's gets better every day (~same as the F1's)
(5) My initial guess is that the Toyo's have a slightly harder tread compound than the F1's, which should give better overall mileage (without sacrificing traction it seems so far)
(6) There is no noticable increase in road noise...
(5) **except that the Toyo's make wayyyyy more noise barking 2nd gear!**

Overall, I like the Toyo's better than the four F1's I've gone through in the last year, and come spring time whent the new F1's currently on the front of my L are burnt off too, I plan to go with Toyo's all around.

I know a few others on here have them too (95rcobra maybe?), so wait to see what others think...but in the meantime, do a search and I'm sure you'll dig up something.

Hope this helps.

Later...

I have them on my 99, they are better in the wet and dry traction than the F1's. The treadwear is much better also. They seems to wear OK, I have put 600 miles on it since I bought it. I don't notice any ride difference or extra noise. They are ever so slightly taller than the F1's, but they are just as stiff on the sidewalls.
The F1 has a treadwear of 300, Toyo's is 420. The overall tread depth is noticeably deeper on the Toyo. Overall, I am very happy with them. I had them on my Eagle Talon Tsi AWD also, they worked well on there as well.

Good to hear some good feedback. I'm getting 2 for the front tomorrow. I'm getting them for less than $400 mounted and balanced. My friend that works at the tire shop told me that they stopped carring them becasue they were having problems with them. When they get really hot some small chunks come off and last less than the f1's. Maybe if you are doing burouts or something all the time. I don't think this will be the case for daily driving.

Eddie, your friend at the tire shop does not know what he is talking about. These tires are great. Just as good as the F1's that came on my 99 L, wet or dry. I replaced my F1's at 24,000 miles. I have 63,000 now. 39,000 miles on the Toyo's! I won't buy anything else after my F1's are gone on the 03 L I have on order.

Thanks Jerry, I went ahead and got them anyway even after he told me that. I have been reading great reviews about them here and that's why I told him to go ahead and get them for me. I don't really go to the track that much. These are for the front anyway. I could've gotten the Nittos for about the same price.

Thumbs up Toyo Proxes

I have them on my 2000 and I love them. At first I was a little apprehensive about switching from the Goodyears, but the Toyos are great and you really can't tell much difference. They don't seem to have the traction that the Goodyears have in the rain, but as long as you go easy in the rain you will be fine. I have about 4,000 miles on mine and I like them more everyday.

No post could match that Pic! but back to the Toyo's I had a set and loved them they have a strong side wall and don't float all over the road. They worked good at the track but I did have a little dry rot going on after 1 full year with them.
