Question 3.73 to 4.10 and 20 inch tires!

Hello,

I'm putting new 01L replica chrome 20 inch rims on my truck with 295/45/20 inch tires that are 30.5 inches in diameter. Stock is 28.5 inches.

With the new 20's, my gear ratio will now be 3.48 on my 01L??
I am thinking about changing to 4.10 gears to get some of my performance loss back. Installing 4.10 gears with the 295/45/20's will give me a final gear ratio of 3.80, a little more than stock???

Ford doesn't sell 4.10 gears for our rearend anymore, I've been told? Who makes good gears to buy? How much? Any tips for do's and don'ts? What does everyone recommend?

Yes, I did a search already...

thanks,
DL

Mark and LightningForce and JDM I believe both sell 4.10s... I hear you need to make sure you have a pinion nut (?) or something before you start.

Hey shawns svt,

E-Mail me and I'll let you know..

Hey Daniel,

Funny thing you mentioned the nut..My friend has a 99 L and had bought Ford 4.10 gears shortly after purchasing his truck. He replaced his gears today and he needs a pinion nut to finish but Ford says they are not available anymore..
So, he's looking for a 22mm x 1.5mm nut. He's not too happy at the moment. Also Ford quit selling the 4.10 gears that fit our L's. ..He thought he had one up on me for this weekend's race, but now he may not get to race his L.

I hope he finds his nut(s),j/k....

thanks,
DL

Cool 4:10 gear " kits "

Hey Guys,

No need to worry about pinion nuts, shims etc. I offer a US/Strange 4:10 gear kit. US is the gear mfg. that used to produce Fords. Best out there IMO. I put together a kit. Includes 4:10 ring and pinion gears, pinion nut, shims (if needed), seal, FMS friction modifier. You can't beat the price either. If anyone one is interested shoot me an email.
