Question 3rd gear shifting problem

My truck shifts fine from 1 to 2, 2 to 3, but while in 3, it goes up like its going to shift to 4th, then skips back down (halfway & still in 3), and then shifts into 4th. It does it at partial throttle, I'm not sure but I dont think it does it in WOT.

Any thoughts?

Take out your after market chip......does it still shift oddly? If not its's chip related.

Does this happen at about 2700 rpm, slips to 3000 and then back down to 2800?

I have a similar problem, i think. While in 2nd gear, if u floor it from about 40, and keep it at WOT, when it hits 3200 RPMS it'll back off to about 2900 then keep going til it shifts. Anyone have this??

thats the converter locking up, its a good thing dont worry, just think of it as fun!,

i believe this is when the transmission is trying to make up its mind whether to shift to give you more speed, or wait it out because your throttle position and load is just on the brink to bring a full downshift, just be more sure of the throttle and there shouldnt be anymore of this. its not a big deal but it can get annoying, ive learned, nothing to worry about

I been told alot that it is the converter locking up too. I think it should be at a higher RPM though like it is in 3rd, around 3800 rpm. At around 3000 rpm it just feels like it is falling too far and doesn't pick back up quick enough.
Dealer says they can't verify what I'm talking about. Good answer.

I thought maybe it was the trans hesitating, but at ANY throttle, from barely to almost WOT. At partial throttle, it goes to about 3500, where it should shift, and goes down to about 2700, then goes up again and shifts into 4th. It doesnt skip up then back, just back in the same gear when it should shift.
It happens any time there is constant throttle up to 4th gear. I seriously hope it doesnt do it in WOT, I think that would hurt my times pretty bad. I'll take out the chip and test it this weekend.

Thanks for the help...

This is the exact thing i noticed when i drove the truck off the lot. I was also told it was the TC. The behavior seems to be changing with mileage (all whoping 440 of them i have).
