Tranny question?
Tranny question?
I think my tranny might be slipping. I have been told that the fluid will give off a certain smell if there is a problem with the tranny. If I drain a little bit of the fluid and bring it into the dealer for a smell, are they going to think I am nuts? I don't want to take my truck into the dealer unless I have to. I would like to get the truck fixed but I don't want it to sit at the dealer for 2 days to find out that nothing is wrong.
If anyone has any other suggestions on how I can find out for sure if there is a problem with the tranny I am welcome to suggestions.
Thanks for any help

how many miles do you have? you might be ready for a change anyway. i had mine done last week at a local oil change shop, convertor and all for about 60 bucks.good luck. i have 41000 on my truck
I have about 20K on the truck and changed the tranny fluid aroud 7500 miles and then again around 15,000.
I don't think it's an issue with dirty fluid.
Back a few months ago I got on the truck from a 30mph roll, the truck downshifted but did not get up and go like is should have. It almost felt like the tries spun for a second, but I know they did'nt. When I had done this in the past, I was put back in my seat and the truck really got up and went. It only happened that one time. A couple months later it did it again. Now when I am on the high way (around 70-75) and I hit the gas a little bit the boost gauge goes up to 4 really easy but the truck does not really accelerate. I don’t know if it’s just me but I just have a feeling that it is slipping.

John:
I wouldn't 'drain' any fluid(there is no drain plug) but if you drive it to the dealer, the tech can just pull the fluid fill rod out and smell the fluid on it. That should be enough for them to know if it's 'burned'.

Sounds like the tranny is a goner. If you have any mods on the L take em off, and take the L in for a new trabby they are one of the weak links in the L'S,the trannny and rods!!!!
Good Luck

I have the 4x4 pan so I could just let a little bit drain out. I just took it for a ride and got on it and my girl friend said "Weak" keep in mind she drive a 00 Maxima. The truck shifts very inconsistently. I also have a chirp coming from the blower. Also sounds like an older vortex. Kinda cool, but I am sure it's not right.
