price jip?

Just called the SVT dealer down here in south texas and they said that the price on the 2002 lightnings is going to be $3,000 over the MSRP, which they say is $32,900= $35,900. So I asked the price on the 01's, and they said $3,000 over the MSRP of $32,000=$35,000. Does that sound right for the 02's or the 01's. If so then I am sorry for posting this, but if not plese let me know. What are some of the prices that the 01 owners paid for theirs? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I paid $27,680 for mine with A-plan. I saw one after I bought it for $27,100 without A-plan. The sticker was $32,460.

I paid something like 27,800 D-plan for my 2001. Any joe-schmoe off of the street shouldn't have to pay even one penny over sticker which is around 32,460 or 32,600 with the tonneau cover. Tell that dealer that they are wishfull thinking and shop elsewhere. Actually, you shouldn't have to go to the trouble of going to a different dealer, just speak to some different salesmen. Just because the first one told you that price, doesn't mean it's the only price. Car Salesmen are worse than Lawyers and Mechanics

good luck.

later,
chris

P.S.

A-plan is for Ford Motor Company employees

D-plan is for dealership employees (work for your local dealership, NOT the same as Ford Motor Company).

X-plan is for members of clubs or students or something like that.

there may be others?

hope this helps.

When I bought mine I didn't know about a X , A plan or anything like that, and I still got mine for $30,500.00

Try a different dealer you should be able to get it under sticker. These L aren't as rare anymore

Check out the lightning strikes web page

www.lightning.f150online.net/

They have a section on buying tips that is really helpful. The info is for 2001 models but it deals with how much the dealer wants to screw you out of your money. It is helpful information for any vehicle purchase.

What ever you do, REMEMBER You are in charge PERIOD… If you loose control of the discussion because of the typical high pressure salesman that wont shut up, just walk out.

I went to the SVT dealer on the last day of the month. I sat in the office area of the used car section and listened to the shatter. They were in competition with the new car salesman for the max number of sales that day. I had been there before earlier in the month and discovered that they were overstocked so I waited till the last day of the month. I picked out a used car salesman that looked out of place. He wasn’t all slicked up in a suit. I asked him if he wanted to sell me the new Red Lightning up on the hill near the main building. He said “Oh yea”. I told him the only way this will happen is that he can only go to the Boss or any other place 3 times. Once to get my price accepted, Once to get the keys for a test drive so I can pick out the one I want and the last time to tell the finance manager I was on the way. I told him any games or extra trips and we were done. Period….
Edmonds had the Invoice at 29k. I started 2k less than invoice. After he made his first trip we settled on invoice. We both knew that the fake trips are pressure tactics and I let him know it. We kept pitching numbers until we arrived at invoice.
There were only 3 trips so I brought home a new L. This dealer had several L’s on the lot to choose from.
The other closest SVT dealers would not deal. They wanted Sticker + and they failed to listen to me, they made more than 1 trip to the boss and I walked out. One even chased me to the car. I told him unless he could agree on less than invoice right here and now I was gone. And so I drove away in search of my future L. I was unable to find a dealer in my area that would do an X-plan hence I wasted a few bucks there.

In my opinion you have to visit. Calling never got anything other than MSRP +. Of course that was several months ago. I don’t know what the inventory level are now.

Good luck…

Just my .02

David

XPLAN NOTICE

currently,, that means right now, i got my 01 lightning for 27,500,, and thats on the x-plan deal,, now this xplan i received actually from my salesman,,, i talked with him for a while and i eventually got him to tell me about the XPLAN and how it works,,, i actually got him to call one of his clients that works for ford,, and was sponsered by them... i have no relations that work for ford,, this nocked a ton of money,, a little over 4,000 off my totaly price. and this is very true, anyone who purchases a lightning should be able to find someone to sponser them,, a ton of ford employees look to actually sponser outside people with their remaining x-plans for the year,, they always figure that they will do anything to push the product and sell more cars,, this goes for any ford vehicle as well,,, get in good with your salesman and see what they can do for you, or see who you know,,,,,,, and for anyone that isn't sure what an X-plan is,,, its a discount given to any ford employee,, or supplier of ford employee wich that employee can then pass the discount on to friends,,, relatives,,, anyone they know as a matter of fact,,,, its not as good of a deal as the A PLAN,, but the A Plan you can only get when either you work for ford,, or someone from your direct family works for ford,,, any questions feel free to ask

NONE OF YOU SHOULD PAY ANYTHING MORE THEN 29,000 for an 01 Lighting,,,, now i live in detroit so maybe it was easier for my dealer to find a ford employee to sponser me,, but all of you looking to buy a lightning or any other ford should ask around, you never know who you might know that might be able to get you an X-PLAN

Unhappy That is too high

boone,

I don't want to start anything, but IMO, I think that is way too much. Seeing that you are from San Antonio, I am assuming you are talking about Northside. Northside was the first place I called scince they are the only SVT dealer in the san antonio area. They didn't have any at the time. Anyways I ended up buying mine out of state for a much better price. I know not everyone likes to shop that far, but I did for the best price. I paid 29,000 excluding tax/title. I hope you find what you are looking for! I love my lightning!

Any dealer that sells for ABOVE MRSP, is an a-hole.
Only thing on his mind is getting the almighty dollar from
the working man.
My dealer has never participated in this, and claims he never
will. He sells all vehicles on A through X plan. His reasoning
is that if he takes care of his customers, they will return, and,
or, tell a friend.
He has 8 new T-Birds coming, all are sold, and all are sold at,
or below MSRP. He will also honor warranty work if your
vehicle is modified. His only word of warning is , if you break it
in the middle of the track, be sure to pull it off the track property
before calling for a tow.

I went to the dealership and they said $3,000 down and they wont even order it until that is paid. And then they said after the $3,000 is paid then the price starts at $32,000 for the 02's. What kind of s*** is that. I got up and walked out. But now i am stuck. There are only four SVT dealers in TX. I need help.

Someone is trying to pull one over on you. If you haven't yet, go register on the boards at www.haloclub.com and see what they have to say. Many of them can tell you a lot better than I can where to go. Just for kicks, I bought my '00 at Tommie Vaughn and paid sticker after only putting $100 to "hold my place." Basically, they just needed some money to make it a binding contract or something.

I know there are at least 6 SVT dealers in Dallas and 4 in Houston. Reason I know is because I either talked to them or went there. In Dallas about 3 months ago, I could not find one in stock to look at and they kept telling me it was first come, first serve when they arrive and that I had to pay $5000 over MSRP. I figured it was BS and didnt bother negotiating until one was in the lot. I gave all the dealers my contact information and believe it or not, none of them ever called me back except one place (close to Mesquite) and they would not budge on the price, would not let me test drive, and they sold it to someone else that same day.

Houston about 2 months ago was another story. I called 4 places and they all had many Ls on the lot. So I figured it would be easier to negotiate. First place I went, forgot name.. Hufman something I believe, they wanted $5k over and would not budge. Besides they didnt have Red. Then I went to another place (Mac Hiek) they had the Red I wanted and they would not let me test drive it not matter what. For some reason these places always say no until the contract is signed then I have a day to drive it and change me mind. I think the law is 3 days, but oh well. Then for the negotiation, the best they would do right away was $3k over. I told them that I KNOW (bluff) I can get the truck for MSRP so why pay $3k over when I was looking at least $1k under. They told me to leave, not worth there time. I told them I was tired of looking. Willing to sign the papers now and that I came a long way from College Station and want to drive back with a new vehicle. They liked the fact that I was an Aggie and said they would be able to give me only $500 under MSRP. I had the itch bad, so I took it, beside I dought my car would of made it back.

I had to go back 3 days later to get the alarm installed and all 8 Ls that were on the lot were already sold. Must explain why they ask for so much. The salesman said that I was one of the few to ever get MSRP let alone under. Could of been BS, but might explain why it is so hard to get a good deal in TX unless you know someone or something special that will hook you up. Also, I heard it is extremely hard to get a place to honor an X-plan in TX because they have the right to refuse and most do unless again you know someone.

Sorry for the book, but I hope within this mess of information I gave you, it might give you an insight of some sort. Or that it might make someone speak up and say "You got screwed!" and then tell you the route to go to get that perfect price in TX. Honostly I have no regrets paying what I did especially with 0% since this truck is fun as hell and I get complements every time I drive it. BTW, you might want to also check out Austin.

Good luck
