How many 01's have/had slap...piston slap that is
Gang:
Had to leave the Lightning exposed to the elements (frost last night) and upon starting this morning, I noticed some sort of rhythmical knocking eminating from the 'doghouse.
After immediate lifting of the hood, it seemed to be isolated toward the front of the engine compartment and not on a specific side and it went away with a bit of underhood throttle input.
Therefore, how many 2001 L owners have/had piston slap?
Only have 1600 miles and have taken it easy thus far (NO mods). I did tow a 6x12 trailer 450 miles this weekend but was careful with keeping the RPM's above 2000 when at speed and not let the OD go below 2000 either.
Also, has anyone noticed the intercooler pump NOT come on when the engine is cold... Mine didn't and the coolant level is as it came from the dealership (read: not totally full)
Hope this isn't the beginning of troubled times...
Any guidance and assistance would be much appreciated.

It does it mostly in the morning and it's pretty obvious to hear...
I'm not going to worry about it. If it blows up, I'll have towed to the dealer........
No clue on the intercooler pump. How can you tell?

Hey Speedy
So far at 22,500 miles no piston slap on mine, and I have been racing mine all year since I got it.
It has been getting cold here in New England lately and still don't here the knock.
This winter I will be replacing the factory pistons and rods, and replacing them with aftermarket stuff. When I do this I will let you know what the stock pistons and cylinder bores look like.
Hopefully it is not piston knock your hearing, maybee a accesory making noice when it is cold. I'll cross my fingers for you.

Speedin:
The coldest it's been here since I bot my 01 L has been 36 degrees or so(inside my garage where 'she' and my parrot reside). 15,000 miles and 1/4 mile runs haven't started those noises for mine(knock on wood). I hope the oil, start-up procedures and break-in will have kept my eng. from 'slappin'.
