Question Avatars??

Steve or Doug,

How come we here on this board can't have avatars???

I love them and think they add to the personality of the user.

Just a thought!!!!

Hey Kyle, at the risk of sounding like the forum police, you probably should have post this in one of the *F150 website* forums.

But the import thing is we should have avatars. Maybe we should make poll on this one.

Cmon Steve or Doug, give us avatars!

avatars?

If I'm not mistaken, those are the pics under your user name, right?
I believe that people were using too large of pictures and it was distorting the viewing screen to be too wide for most screens. Could be wrong, bit I think that was it, and people would not change them when asked to.......

No, sortof, kindof...actually, Steve can set a limit to file byte and file size.

Avatars aren't worth it. They are just a cosmetic appearance that take up bandwidth, and slow down dial up modem users. What we need is Private Messenging and VOTING!!!

If it is private messaging that you want, just install AOL Instant Messanger.

At one time people here were posting pics and avitars in there signiture and Steve asked us not to do it because it was taking up too much bandwidth and took too long to load because many or most people did not understand or have the software to reduce their pics file size for fast loading.

Ditto on what noelvm stated. Additionally, avatars were turned off because several people had used icons that we considered to be in poor taste and decided to give us a hard time when we asked them to be removed. The additional hassle that would come along with avatars was deemed to not be worth any additional benefit they would provide...which in my opinion is absolutely nothing.

Regarding rating, whether it be thread or member, I find this to be the most absurb function ever added to forum software. It would add no legitimate value to these forums and only serves to clutter up the interface. People post threads and rate them as five stars so they will get read.

Private Messaging has not been turned on because of the continued server problems. I do not have an ETA on this feature, but I don't really think it would be worth the additional load it would place on the server. The F150online Forums are public forums and Private Messaging is the complete opposite. If you want to converse with someone privately, I would echo the suggestion above, use IM or email.

I didn't say "rating". I said "voting", like polls. I agree, thread rating is stupid. Poll Voting on the other hand is worth it.

Ah, yes, voting. I agree, voting is valuable. Putting it into everyone's hands is not, however. I can see the polls now:

Poll: Which color is fastest?

A. Silver
B. Red
C. Blue
D. Black
E. White

If somebody out there has an idea for a poll, that is not marketing research related and not something like "which is the best chip" let Doug or I know and we may post it. But, for the reason stated above, I don't think we will open up poll creation to the masses.

Absolutely,

I have the ability to post polls.... I have done a couple... they were received pretty well but not great... If you come up with an idea for a poll just drop me an email ... You and I will hash it out and perhaps get it posted...

Doug

PS Is it ironic that this quote
because it was taking up too much bandwidth and took too long to load because many or most people did not understand or have the software to reduce their pics file size for fast loading.
came from the guy who has three pictures ( 82k = between 12 and 20 seconds for dial up users ) in his Signature.... LOL -- Got ya Noel...

I have a great idea for a poll. Sould we bring back the SEARCH POLICE? When voting you MUST state whether you own a 99,00, or 01.
