On Board Tire Pressure Monitor

Tire Rack is selling this device which monitors the air pressure in your tires via a wireless pickup unit that mounts in the wheels and is displayed on a LCD screen.

Anyone here have it/try it? It seems like it might be worth the money, plus it is an extra gadget with buttons on it to impress your friends

NOSTROMO - you going to try this? I've been thinking about putting something like this in next time I have the tires balanced.

Yeah I probably will. I pretty much trust anything Tire Rack sells, usually it is quality. It would be nice if someone else had it and how they liked it.

I have been using this system for about 3-4 months. I went to it because I am using "run flat" type of tires and do not carry a spare. So far I am happy with the operation of the system.

Thumbs up

I have been running it as well as many fellow competitors in the Open Road stuff works great.
2 problems with it thou.1 is that it only take reading every 30 sec. for me that is a long time.2 is that band clamp torque is critical. If it is to tight it will break and be flopping around inside the tire and the same thing will happen if it is to loose.Stan

Exclamation

Lock tight won't help it happens because of the weight that it is holding at any higher speed.Have heard of 3 failures like this.Plus 1 failure when remounting tires, think it was because they were seating the beads of the tire at to high of a psi.Better have some one who KNOW what they are doing mount the tire. Also have them use a soap paste instead of the soapy water. If not it can corrode the sensor over time.Stan
