BTW Steven, the Hayabusa can't hit 200 mph unless you have a LOT of internal engine mods or a turbo.I know cause I have one.The busa can "only" hit between 187-194 ( depending on wind and whether ) and that my friend IS FAST!! It takes a whole lot of H.P. to squeeze out another 6 MPH when your enemy is the wind!! It is the fastest bike out there,though a ZX12 will stay with you up to 180 !!!Then its aerodynamics that take over and thats where the Busa shines !!

hyabusa's don't go 200 mph....geeeez quit reading the magazines............no production bike has reached 200 yet

The '99 and '00 Hayabusa's can with MINOR modifications. The '01's need MAJOR mods mandated by the government to hit over 200. My neighbor right across the street has a 2000 and his WILL do over 200. Not with me on it though.

I can't see the pics, but I do remember those things. I was in middle school back then, but I definately remember them. They were awesome, like little tiny sport bikes. Congrats on your purchase, and like somebody else said, that would be an awesome pit ride.

I have a 2001 Hayabusa and the only change mandated by the Government (and it's the Euro gov's that started the fiasco) is that the speed of any production motorcycle can no longer exceed 300 kph (186 mph for those of us ignorant of the metric system). The only changes between a 99/00 and 01 'Busa are that the '01 has a cam chain tensioner that works (after two recalls by Suzuki on the 99/00 bikes), different paint schemes and it also now only has a 190 mph speedo and the timing is retarded in top gear (6th) to limit the speed to the Gov't mandated 186 mph. The speed limitation can be overcome with a $70 TRE (Timing Retard Eliminator) that can be purchased from any Hayabusa shop and is made by Ivan of Rockland County Cycle fame. This piece is essentially a resistor that plugs in to the GPS (gear position sensor) of the bike and constantly sends out a signal that the bike is in fifth gear (which has the best map in the computer) thereby overcoming the top speed limit and providing some more grunt in the lower gears (as Suzuki was nice enough to soften the maps to keep rank rookies from "power looping" their bikes by nailing them in first or second gear). The top speed of my bike now resides somewhere between 190 and 194 depending on road, wind speed and direction, etc. To get the extra 6-10 mph to break the magical 200 mph mark I would need to spend another $2,000-2,500 for a pipe, air filter, PCM programmer and some throttle body and head port and polish work along with new cams. These mods will give me anywhere from 180-190 hp (stock is anywhere from 150-158 hp). And anyone with a 99/00 'Busa would have to do the same. However, for the ultimate top speed rush NLR Turbo is nice enough to make a race prep turbo kit for the 'Busa that will give me more horsepower at the back wheel (470+) than my truck will have unless I decide to spray juice...



Don't mean to flame you but rather trying to inform and hopefully convince some of these cage (biker slang for four wheel vehicles) bound people to try a little two wheel fun...preferably on a 'Busa!
