Trailer light connector/harness
I just bought a 99 Lightning. It looks like it came with the factory tow package, but the previous owner must have removed the 7 pin box that was mounted on the bumper because all I have back there is a female plug, no box. I need to convert this to a flat 4 pin for my boat trailer. I got a 7 to 4 adapter from Wal-Mart, but the 7 pin ends are both the same. My local Ford dealer wants $49 just for the damn box. The sales guy at the same dealership, gave me a factory 4 pin connector and harness, but it has the small, round 4 pin, that doesn't plug in anywhere on the truck that I can see. The wiring colors ARE the same in both factory harnesses, can I just cut the 7 pin plug off and splice the factory 4 pin on and tape up the extra wires from the 7 pin if I match colors on the two harnesses???? Thanks in advance for the help!!!
Here are two pictures of the connectors, the first one is the factory mounted harness end, and the second one is the 4 pin that the dealer gave me.

The plug that is gray, looks like its the one for the Ranger not the F150.
The plug you need will plug into the black plug on one side, on the other side it will have a regular round seven with a cap over it.
You may want to try Wal-Mart or a trailer store to get the plug you need.
I have some at work, and can get a pic of the one you need, on Monday.
Don't forget to get a bracket to.

Right, the plug you describe is what my dealer wants $49 for!!!!
What a ripoff....I'm going to try a local junk yard first, there must be a few totalled F150's out there with the factory 7 pin. I already have the 7 pin to 4 flat adapter, I just need the male end connector for the plug I have on the truck now. What a P.I.T.A. this has become.

All '99's with the factory tow package came with the 7 to 4 adapter since the only plug that was on the bumper was the 7 pin. Who ever you bought it from should have given it to you or it must have gotten lost along the way. the '01 have both the 4 and 7 on the bumper.
I think he took it off. It looks like there was a hitch on the frame, and there had been something mounted where the trailer plug normally is, but he must have taken it all off when he traded it or something. I know where he lives, I am going to swing by early next week and find out if he still has the parts or atleast what WAS there.
Nothing can be easy anymore......LOL
I have the 7 to 4 adapter, I just need the damn 7 pin on the bumper, I have 7 to 7, female to female ends now. I refuse to pay $49 just for the stupid plug from the dealer.
