Unhappy air intake and chip

HI,,,
I am a new 2001 lightning owner and am very happy so far. After reading in this sight lots of people say that changing the air intake filter and addind a chip will give me a good performance boost, i have been wondering though if the performance boost is as big when you add an intake filter such as the downs intake to the 2001 version,,, due to the fact that the intake has already been messed with for this year to give it 380 horsepower stock, i'm only wondering how big of a change an aftermarket intake will make.

thanks for any comments,

Congrats on your new truck If it was me, I wouldn't waste my money on the Downs, a piece of ***** from what other members on this board have reported. Go to PSP or Johnny Lightning for your intake. Take your time and break-in your truck, say 3000 miles give or take a few. You will see an improvement in the performance. And if you think its fast then, when you chip it .....Holy Cow

I'll second what Gator said, wait til about 3k miles before mods. By then your truck will have been mostly broken in and you will notice an increase in power from that alone.

After that a chip/filter from any of the top 3 tuners will give you that extra power you want. JDM is now offering packages, and the basic offers chip/filter/breather cap all together which you may want to look into.

Go with the JL or PSP stuff. Both of them are High Quality and easy to deal with, plus you get exactly what you pay for!!!

I got JDM

I got the 12" air filter kit, chip, single blade TB and chip. The truck was WAY faster than it ever was stock. As for the break in, after 3K it was noticable, 5K it was sweet. I love my truck. Don't get discouraged since it's new, they are all diamonds in the rough and need a little polishing

Congrats and good luck
