Need advice on air box replacement??

*******search ***** back of***********i am looking for fresh opinions

Anyhoo -

I am a real stickler for products that perform well and look as good as they perform. I can not stand mickey mouse looking crap. I want to order my first "power" mod tommorro (air filter kit). I have looked at the big 3's web sites and cant really tell whitch one would perform and look real good.

Your experiences / input would be greatly appreaciated

Bob

Btw - I will have had my truck 1 month as of tomorro (425 miles)

The PSP and JDM are almost the same kit. A huge filter, a custom made adapter, and the ony differances is how it is mounted. Though I like the way the PSP's kit mounts better. The JL kit works just as well but maybe delivers alittle more freesh air. We tried the JL's kit with our Pro-M 80mm MAF and found the only gain from the kit was the larger filter. We ran the ram-air stuff for about 3 months then took it off becuase it kept makeing tire rub the fender liner.

You wont go wrong with any other the Big 3. All kits are nice peices and will help alot.

Just my two cents...

Well......

I like our stuff for obvious reasons. You can ask Jimmy Vacarro about the quality and fit of our products, he's seen our test truck many times. Any specific questions, just ask .

Bob:

I chose JL's Ram Air primarily because(to my knowledge) he's the only 'tuner' to come South and race(using his mods, of course). I got to meet him(and his wife, Sue) and see his 99 L(they drove it from PA to Reynolds, GA, last spring to run in a NMRA event) and all of his mods.

The RamAir is well made and fits my 01 L, and it helped me and many others get in to the 12s. Get the Outerwear 'sock' from him also--it keeps the big junk away from the filter but doesn't restrict the air.

I've seen some of the other tuners(PSP, & JDM'S) filter kits and they are well made and work too--many(52, at last count on the nloc board) 12s for each of these tuners products.

Hey Bob, were you the guy who was down by the scales (which weren't working because of the rain)?

I can snap some nice pics of our kit this weekend for you, as well as our new FASTair upgrade for the filter kit which gives you the ultimate induction systsem. I have the motor apart right now, but when I get the intake back on in the next day or two, I'll snap some pics for you.

Hey Sal:

When I go to your site and click on "more info" for your 'fast-air' kit, it won't load. The description indicates it's available but there is no price shown. Am I missing something? When it's ready, will it adapt to my JL filter(without the ram air duct work)?

Here is my opinion, I was totally against the open element air filters for quite some time, the idea of sucking all of that hot air in from the radiator, exhaust manifold, etc in engine compartment just seemed like a stupid idea.

I dyno'd my truck Bone Stock (paper filter & no mods) several times one day and then swapped in a K&N drop in and ran it a few times and it DEFINATELY worked on my truck, I gained anywhere from 3 to 10hp and ft/lbs at the rear wheels with the k&n panel.

I was looking for an acceptable air box mod (cold air hoses, modified airraid, anything that might help besides an open element).

Well at Englishtown NJ a few weeks ago my truck was running very consistantly (in my opinion) at around 12.860-12.840. JL was there selling his open element kits so I said screw it and gave it a try.

My ET's didn't change but my MPH did go up from 107 to 108 for the rest of the day. plus the sound is worth it, it screams now

I can't say if my boost is any higher because with the pulley my factory guage goes way over into the black now anyway.

As for differences between the "big 3" I can't really say. I haven't seen Sal's (psp) kit, but I did see a pic of JDM's kit and I must say that the little flange that connects the filter to the MAF looks nice (machined aluminum?).

I hope this helps... good luck.

later,
chris

Cool Filter kit

Hey Bob,

I too have a very nice kit. A billet aluminum adapter, 12" Power Stack filter, a new air charge sensor, a machined aluminum mounting bracket, and a filter to fender inlet tube. I have them available for 80mm & 90mm. I'll shoot you a pic. of one installed.
