Paging Factory Tech
I bought a Factory Tech Shift Kit and was wondering if I would need to get my JL Diablo chip reburned to lower the line pressure? I want to have the tranny shift firm and bark the tires at the 1-2 shift and possibly the 2-3, but also do not want to do any damage to the clutches or tranny itself. I am putting it in a 2001 and also heard that some of the shift kits had problems when installed on 2001 L's. I bought it from someone on this forum who bought it from PSP, but never installed it. He got it about 2 months ago. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Sorry it took so long, I had a little problem Tues night and was in the hospital.
It'll work with elevated line pressure, but I just plain don't like evelvated line pressure. Bottom line is, using software to raise your line pressure WILL damage your transmission, I just see too much of it and I would never let a chip tuner raise the line pressure for a program I was useing for daily driving (i'm still thinking about a Race Only program on a flip chip) I've very recently gotten more militant on this, I read the MM&FF article about rebuilds and then asked a few questions and such. I'm convinced.
As far as the '01 thing, I haven't built one of the old ones since about Memorial day so I'm pretty sure most of them are gone. There's no way to be sure from looking at it unless you take it apart (don't, to get to where you can tell you have to take out the lower retainer and you need a special tool to get it back in, and no I won't loan you mine) To check if it's gonna stick, take a toothpick (no metal) and "twang" the 321 valve in the three shift bores, if they snap back, they're fine, if one sticks, contact me and I'll send you another one (now this is what I call customer service). The difference between the old and new ones is that valve and spring combo (the A bore will not spring back, it has no spring, so make sure you do the three that are all alike), anyhow, the new one have a diffenrent spring in the shift bores and the valve is made to be less prone to sticking. The get sticky setting waiting to be installed, once thy're in, it's not a problem.
Hope this helps,
G
