How high have you ever revved ur L?
Maybe its a kind of goofy question, but how high have you revved your truck, it doesnt matter if it was doing a burnout or whatever. Just thought that it would be interesting to know how high some people have takin their motors.
You can't go past 5600 from the factory. I've taken it there about 15 times total. 7 on the dyno, and 8 on the track.
Gen 2 Lightnings like ours have Mustang GT heads/cams on them, so the heads can easily turn 6000, if everything else were able to.
FWIW, my '96 Mystic Cobra went to 7400 regularly

I have a 10,000rpm auto meter tach with high recall and shift light in my 87 t-bird on the pillar. I love the tach there, i think that it would be pretty cool to put on in a L, but since the truck is my dads and he thinks its better off in my car i guess we wount have one, haha. I think that i saw someone say that they hit 6500 coming out of a burn out. Is that safe for the motor?
Scared the chit outa' me.........
a couple of weeks ago at the track while doin' a 1st gear burnout--tach went to 5,900-6,000(?) rpm. Just crossed my rotors(LOL) and rolled up to the tree. Nooooo problems.
Btw, Sal said "don't do burnouts in 1st--you get low tire rpms and HIGH eng. rpms"--just leave it in Drive.

Lightning Boy' s tach isn't lying. His dad and I both have our rev limited's set at 7000 to keep them out of the way of any tire slippage at the track and the motor shutting down. We have both hit our rev limiters several times when doing a burnout at the water box. This way we don't rely on the tach, but the limiter. This is the number we gave our tuner, 7000 RPM for the rev limiter.
