Qustion / Problem with GTech
I recently purchased one of these little guys, but I'm having a problem. When I position the gtech vertical it will measure .88g and if I rotate it 180 deg. It will measure 1.12g. I emailed gtech about the problem, but they told me it is normal and all that matters is that the two numbers add up to 2g. I'm trying to understand how this doesn't matter. Isn't tipping the unit vertical (perpendicular from the ground) the same as applying a 1g force? If I were to accelerate at 1g wouldn't it measure .88??
Has anyone else with a gtech tried this? According to their owner's manual it should measure 1g when positioned vertical. But in their email reply they say the owners manual is wrong.
Any thoughts?
Thanks, Dan

Dan,
Went out and turned mine on. Veritically it measured 1.06 g's and turned 180, it read .96g. So if they say all they have to do is add to 2g's, then I guess both of ours' work properly. At least lets hope that is the real story.

That is the prob w/the g techs they are all a little different. One guy says his truck runs this with a g tech somebody else says they run that. Put 2 g techs on your window at the same time and you will get 2 different readings-probably way different. They do seem to be repeatable, though so take it to the track, find out how much it is off by and then you will have a rough "correction factor" to go by wheneever you use it.
My new one registers about .99 and 1.01, and actually will change depending on temperature. Just FYI, you can pop open the case and there is a small silver dial you can turn with a small screwdriver that can be used to "zero" the unit out. "Zero out" being have it read exactly 1g. Although, playing with that never really seemed to make much difference. I ran mine with it reading anywhere between .95 and 1.08 when held vertically and the numbers all ended up about the same. I was convinced my first unit was screwed up so I sent it back and they replaced it for me, but I'm getting about the same reading with the second unit. Both units seem a little fast, but it will at least give me a baseline for comparison sake.
