Anything to know?

Sorry to bother you but I am considering trading for a Lightening. I love my 99 Vette but we need the practicality of a truck and the Lightening seems plenty fast! Anything I should know first or I should look for when buying one?

Any good points or bad points?

Thanks for your input,

Mark

It's spelled L I G H T N I N G.

I thought that would be a good place to start....

Mark:

Just buy it. There are a million reasons why. Some are even deemed acceptable by the 'misses'.

Nothing turns heads like these trucks. You'll be King Of The Road. Everything else is Second Place.

Ask anybody...

Good Luck!

Ignore that guy. he's notorious for being a smart-alec around here. Time for some Southern hospitality....I looked under my front bumper to make sure there were no scratches from loading-unloading. I also got out of the truck and listened to the engine for weird noises also. I'm sure some others will have more ideas soon......

Hey Mark, Yea what Frank said, you'll love it. People around town laugh at me because I want haul anything in my truck but thats just me. My truck did get damaged when they unloaded it, the front bumber is so low that it drags across the truck ramps when they unloaded it. Also my hood had 2 small spots on it where they welded the under side in, they must have gotten it to hot and it shows up in the right sun light. I really didn't care because I'm going to change out the hood anyway but its something to look at. Other than that I can't think of anything. Its been great. Getting about 15 mpg as expected, its smooth and handles good.

Mark, I was in the same boat as you a couple of months ago...loved my 98 vette, but needed a truck for the small house jobs and maybe to tug a boat. I found a dealer that would do x-plan and give a great trade on my 98 vette considering the current vette market. The lightning is alot of fun and does get alot of looks...especially when somebody tries to do the ricer fly-by and fails miserably. The lightning doesn't feel as quick as the vette, mine was a 6 speed, but then again I am totally stock with the exception of a magnaflow muffler...not to mention it sits quite a bit higher than the vette so the pavement doesn't "appear" to be moving as fast. I still haven't been able to get anybody to run me from a stop light with the exception of a freind with a 95 GT...he didn't do so well. All things considered, I say lose the vette and get a lightning...it's definitely more practical than a vette and a much better daily driver!

If you really want to turn heads I would recommend RED every thing else just blends.

Welded? I thought we had composite hoods?

Wow, I'd have to think that my friend's White L stands out a LOT easier than my Silver L.

Talking

You'll need to get Herb's washers, cam bolts, and a set of Wet Okoles.

You'll be happy with any Gen2 Lightning you buy. Search the board for "X plan". With the X plan and great financing you can't go wrong.

BFB, I am pretty sure that the outer skin on the hood is aluminum.

Mark:

Do it! Sure, Corvettes are great but this is a truck that can run 12s in the 1/4 for less than $1,000 and then take you to The Dillard House for supper and bring back 3 or 4 boxes of apples! And if you're into 'audio', wait 'til you hear the s/charger scream with an open filter air intake and a s/c pulley.

After you buy it, break it in(you'll get all kinds of 'help' with that-LOL), and add your choice of moderately priced mods; bring it on down to Reynolds, GA and run the fire out of it down the 1/4 mile. Btw guys, this track closes at Thanksgiving and won't open again until the spring--got three more Fris. to run--low temps-low times.

Almost forgot, mine was perfect(?) Bot it at Gene Evans Ford, drove it home(Warner Robins), and it's never seen a dealer or tech yet.

if you get white, you might as well carry milk. it looks like a fridge. if you get black, get ready to clean every two seconds. if you get silver, get ready to not be noticed. and in this truck its fun to be noticed, thats half the fun. that leaves only one choice. and if you want to see how nice it looks, take a look at richs pictures. tampasvt.
