Angry intercooler recall nightmare

got my '99 back from the dealer. It took a week to do the job ,and when I picked it up I pulled out of the drive way it died. The service engine light came on. I limped back in the drive way and poped the hood. The air box laying ****ed with all the clips undone and wires dangling in the pulleys. the manager brought out the "mechanic" .He took it back and "fixed it".The light was now off and the wires seemed connected. OK ,good, till about 4 miles down the freeway and it dies in the second lane, I throw it in neutral and it still won't start..... cars are now swerving around me. pretty scarey.. just then this BIG guy pulls up , and yells "let's get this thing of the road before somebody dies!" God bless 'em he pushes it off like a toy ! I pop the hood again to find some other connectors off on the top of the engine, I hook them up and after a few sputers it fires . All is well, that is until I get home to find my tail gate is now pushed in!and the truck still has no boost...

That sucks dude

But unfortunately not an atypical Ford dealer experience. After having my '94 Mustang GT get totally ****ed up by a crappy dealership that did nothing but lie to me when they weren't outright ignoring me, I learned the hard way to be very careful about which dealers I take my ride to. References from customers are a must unless I have an 'in' with the shop.

BTW, many people have posted that the Lincoln Mercury service departments tend to be a little better on average than Ford dealers, and they can do warranty work on your L.

I would certainly not go back to the dealer who hosed your truck and try to get them to fix what they broke. They will just keep ****ing you. Find another dealer.

Good luck, and I hope you can get your L well again soon.

Hey Chopper - Sorry to hear your sad story. I hope you get it taken care of to your satisfaction. I'm getting ready to have mine done at Sunrise/Metro in North Hollywood. Just please tell me you got yours done somewhere else. I can understand you may not want to identify the dealer at this point. Thanks!

That sucks!!!! I would go back to the dealer and go as high on the food chain as I could and start kicking some butt. That isn't right. Start on the top of the food chain and work your way down, then all of the bosses know what is going on.

That is INEXCUSABLE! You could have been hurt - or worse, someone could have DIED because of their negligence! Sorry to hear about your Lightning, and I'm glad you're ok.

Am I the only one who thinks this is grounds for legal action??? This is the most outrageous dealership experience I have heard of. DANGLING WIRES????? What was the mechcanic thinking??? How did they even manage to drive the truck out of the garage bay?

That's the most unbelieveable dealer service story I've ever heard. The tech (if you want to call him that) should be fired on the spot for letting someone drive off with the truck in that shape. Sounds to me like they should be fixing your tailgate. Ford has some of the worst service depts. around, I know from experience unfortunately. Glad you didn't get hurt and good luck.

Donny, where 'bouts in L.A? You might want to consider having your truck worked on by Barber Ford in Ventura. I know its a drive, but if you have Ricky work on it the job will be done right. He rides a chopper, too.

That really sucks, I hope the truck is running good now and that the dealer fixed the tailgate.

What a first post here on F150online. I hope your next post is a great story on how you spanked a Vette or something fun like that.

Let us know how you make out, and welcome to the message board.

get this!!!

called two weeks ago to have ford send my parts to the dealership i bought my truck from for the recall. Said i should hear from them in 5 days. It's been two week and haven't heard anything!!! Called Ford today and they confirmed the parts where shipped on the 9th. Said to call the dealer and ask what was doing, if there was a problem, call her back. Called the dealer and they said they had no parts their for my truck, and that I would have had to brind the truck in the first place or they would have never ordered them........hello? Do you know what's going on in the world? So I called ford back and she called the dealer while I was on the line.......she told them the parts where shipped and they had recieved them......dealer swore up and down they never had them. Sounds like they used them on someone else's truck to me. She resent the parts and told me to call them in 5 days, if there is a problem to call her and let her know. Great experience for my first dealing with my dealer's service deptartment. I'm tempted to call ford and have them send my parts to a different dealer.

I have tried & tried to get my parts sent to a different dealer after I had them sent to one dealer but they said they wouldn't. So I'm just taking it in and having them order another intercooler.
